BJP LIED TO YOU.

they did not fulfil all their promises.

THREAD: A comprehensive analysis of their 'claims' and whether they were fulfilled or not

(backed by DATA)

Firstly, we are NOT sponsored by ANY POLITICAL PARTY.

This thread is simply an analysis from a neutral point of view to understand BJPs claims and fulfilment.

To identify their claims, we've referred to their official 'Sankalp Patra' released by them in 2019.

This thread will be divided into 5 sections:

• Security
• Agriculture
• Economy
• Infrastructure
• Social Symbols

(other sectors will be provided through a document)

Promise 1 - Zero Tolerance to Terrorism.

Our take - ✅ FULFILLED.

Between 2004 and 2013, there were 9321 terror strikes, where 47% of the terrorists escaped.

But, from 2014 to 2022, there were just 2132 (77% less) strikes where just 20-30% of the terrorists escaped.

Promise 2 - Article 370 Abrogation.

✅ FULFILLED.

In Aug 2019, Article 370 was abrogated, and in 2023, the Supreme Court validated this order as 'completely lawful'.

This was a landmark moment for BJP.

Promise 3 - Internal Security

❌ NOT FULFILLED

As per NCB, in 2021, there were 4.21 LAKH crimes against women, a ~43% increase since 2012.

Even in BJP-ruled states like MP, UP, and Haryana, there was a marked increase in crime rates (see the 2nd pic)

Promise 4 -Modernization of Police Forces.

❌ NOT FULFILLED.

As of 2020, of the total 16833 police stations, more than a THOUSAND lacked basic amenities like vehicles, telephone and communications!

What's interesting, is that ₹18,636 Cr was earmarked for this!

Promise 5 - Self-Reliance in the Defence Sector

Our take: ✅ FULFILLED

Since 2016-17, our defence exports have risen by 10 TIMES, reaching a staggering 16,000 crores.

Plus, today we export defence goods to more than 85 COUNTRIES!

OVERALL CONCLUSION:

✅ In security, BJP has fulfilled most of their promises.

They've combated external security but have failed in stabilizing and improving the internal security of the country (look at Manipur!)

Next comes - Agriculture

PROMISE 1 - DOUBLE FARMER INCOME

Our take ❌ NOT FULFILLED

If we look at the real income growth (i.e. income growth minus the inflation),

We'll see that from 2016-17, the farmer's income has DECREASED by 1.5%!

PROMISE 2 - WAREHOUSE NETWORK

Our take ❌ NOT FULFILLED

Today, India just can store 53% of our total foodgrain production! (compared to 133% in other countries)

The rest? It stays uncovered on the ground - leading to post harvest losses up to 30%

PROMISE 3 - DIGITAL LAND RECORDS

✅ FULFILLED

To date, 94% of digitization targets have been met, estimated to be completed by 31/03/2024.

PROMISE 4 - IRRIGATION PROJECTS

Our take 🟧 PARTLY FULFILLED

Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, 47% of the projects have been completed to date.

PROMISE 5 - PENSION SCHEME FOR FARMERS

Our take ✅ FULFILLED

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana, they aimed to provide pension scheme to small and marginal farmers over the age of 60.

More than 1.9 MILLION People have already registered for this scheme.

OVERALL CONCLUSION:

😐 BJP hasn't been able to fulfil all their promises relating to agriculture.

But... they've started work on it. So for efforts, it's a win for them.

Next up: ECONOMY

PROMISE 1 - KEY INDICATORS (GDP, Inflation)

Our take ✅ FULFILLED

-> Although BJP has a 1.1% less GDP growth rate,
-> They've managed to keep inflation below at 5.1% instead of 8.1% in UPA's case.

PROMISE 2 - LOW FISCAL DEFICIT

Our take ❌ NOT FULFILLED

Interestingly, under the NDA rule, we've seen both, the WORST and BEST FISCAL deficit ratio.

Taking the average, under Modi, our fiscal deficit has been higher. However, it might be due to COVID, and Russia Ukraine war.

PROMISE 3 - FDI.

Our take ✅ FULFILLED

Under the Modi rule, we've received more than $500.5 Bn in FDI (as of Mar 2022), which is 65% MORE than what we received during UPA's 10-year rule

PROMISE 4 - DEBT - GDP RATIO

❌ NOT FULFILLED

According to a UN paper, for a developing country like India, the Debt to GDP ratio should be <40%.

But... as of FY23, this ratio stands at 81%.

The result?

We've to spend 39.1% (FY22) of our ENTIRE INCOME to INTEREST payments!

PROMISE 5 - 25% Manufacturing and 100M Jobs

❌ NOT FULFILLED

BJP's goal was to increase the manufacturing sector's contribution to 25% of the GDP by 2025.
And, create 100 MILLION jobs.

But its contribution DECREASED to 13%!

What's more - the no. of jobs in this sector declined to just 27.3 M (FY21) from 51 M in 2016!

People flocked to agriculture, rising to 151M as of FY21.

And even in the service sector, just 8 M jobs were created as of FY21.

Note: The pandemic may have a role in this.

OVERALL CONCLUSION:

😐 Okayish.

Although schemes like PLI have boosted our exports and domestic production, creation of jobs remain a problem.

Plus, jobs in the service or manufacturing sector haven't grown enough to tackle unemployment from agriculture.

Next: Infrastructure

PROMISE 1 - Constructing 60,000Km of National Highways

✅ FULFILLED

In the last 9 times, 50,000Km of highways have been constructed!

The pace of construction has more than doubled to 28 km per day, and although the length hasn't doubled, a massive improvement is surely seen!

PROMISE 2 - ELECTRIC RAILWAY TRACKS

✅ FULFILLED

As of Mar 2023, ~90% of our broad gauge network of Indian Railways has already been electrified!

And - roughly 50% of it was done in the last 5 years itself!

PROMISE 3 - EASTERN AND WESTERN DEDICATED FREIGHT CORRIDORS.

✅ ON TRACK TO COMPLETION

Today, the Eastern corridor is 100% 'operational', and, 70% of the western freight corridor is ready!

And, many railway stations have already been equipped with WIFI!

PROMISE 4 - DOUBLING PORTS CAPACITY!

✅ FULFILLED

Guess what, the Gov has already achieved this milestone!

The major port cargo handling capacity has more than doubled from ~8710 Lakh tonnes to 16,100 Lakh tonnes per annum.

Even the turnaround time has been reduced by 42%!

PROMISE 5 - 175 GW of Renewable Energy Capacity

✅ ON TRACK

As of Dec 2022, we have achieved 69% of our target!

PROMISE 6 - PIPED WATER FOR EVERY HOUSEHOLD.

✅ ON TRACK
As of Dec 2023, 72% of the households are now equipped with piped water!

OVERALL CONCLUSION:

✅ BJP has done a phenomenal job of building infrastructure in the country, be is road or railway.

However, this has been done using DEBT, which has strained our financial position.

Next up: Social Indicators

PROMISE 1 - Pakka Houses for Everyone

❌ NOT FULFILLED

In rural areas, 72% of it is completed, but in urban areas, just 51% of our target of 100% pakka houses have been completed.

PROMISE 2 - 100% Households with LPG

❌ NOT FULFILLED

From the 2019-21 NFHS Survey, it was found that only 56.2% of the population used LPG/PNG as primary cooking fuel.

PROMISE 3 - 100% ELECTRIFICATION.

✅ FULFILLED

Electricity access among the poorest 20% has increased from 53% to 86% from the NFHS Survey 2019-2021.

And, in 19 States/UT, this % is more than 95%!

PROMISE 4 - Bank A/c and Toilets

✅ FULFILLED

As of 2021, 78% of people above the age of 15 have a bank account, a significant improvement from the 44% in 2011.

Plus, more than 95% of households have access to toilets now!

PROMISE 5 - Poverty in single digits

*Our take* : ❌ NOT FULFILLED.

Although data says that less than 10% live below the poverty line... we believe the indicator is a little outdated (₹150 is the poverty line)

Hence, the actual data may differ.

OVERALL CONCLUSION:

😐 50/50

BJP has succeeded in providing access to toilets, and electricity, and keeping reservations for women,

However, it has failed to achieve its LPG, Pakka houses, and Poverty targets.
