China's government made its intentions evident in 2015. The US sabre rattling of sanctions reinforced that purpose whilst the US essentially continued with a misguided "market knows best" policy.
This, along with the transition of power from West to East, is simply the logical expression of the Beijing versus Washington model - a path that was started long ago by Deng Xiaoping.
Alas, the US is still too dominated by neoliberal economic thinking, and it lacks a long-term strategic capability. For all our souls, it needs to adapt to a world where the future relationship between US and China is equivalent in scale to today's relationship between UK and US.
