A common myth perpetuated by certain peoples is that Serbs have constantly throughout history had aspirations too create a “Greater Serbia”. Specifically in the 1990s.
🧵| A thread refuting this:
(Reupload)
1| SANU Memorandum:
The SANU Memorandum was drafted by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in the year 1986.
Many allege this is be a so called plan for “Greater Serbia” when in reality it was rejected by majority of Serbia hierarchy such as Milosevic⬇️
2|
Moreover, the more ironic thing behind the alleged plan is the fact it was never the offical document of the Academy in the first place.
This was ratified by the president of the SANU academy Nikola Hajdin⬇️
3| RAM Plan:
The RAM plan was an alleged plan for the creation of “Greater Serbia”.
However, so far evidence of this plan was ever presented nor was it ever presented in document form⬇️
4| SPC
Another, proponent of this plan many people allege is that the Serbian Orthodox Church allegedly supported the creation of “Greater Serbia”.
Even though the SPC broke its neutrality to come and and call for Milosevic to resign and condemn “Greater Serbia”⬇️
5| SPC
Another claim is that the SPC supported the violence and bloodshed committed by the Serbian forces when in reality they were vehemently condemned. ⬇️
6| Bosnia
Prior to the commencement of the Bosnian war the three delegates representing the Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks met in Lisbon to discuss a settlement.
Karazdic agreed to remain within Bosnia opposed to joining Serbia with power being shared equally amongst the three⬇️
7|
Now even long before the war occurred Radovan Karazdic met with Adil Zulfikarpašić who was speaking upon the behalf of Alija Izetbegović.
Karazdic agreed to remain within Yugoslavia as a federal unit whilst giving autonomy to Sanzak in Serbia to the Bosniaks.⬇️
8|
During the war Radovan Karazdic outlined six strategic goals for the Bosnian Serbs to accomplish.
In the which non of these ever mentioned uniting with Serbia only merely creating a separate state⬇️
Although, initially the plan was to remain within SFRY Yugoslavia.
9|
During Radovan Karazdic trial his defendants on his behalf who testified as witnesses claimed claimed that he never wanted a “Greater Serbia”.
Only to remain in SFRY and then later create an independent state.
10|
During the trials of the Bosnian Serb hierarchy it was found that the common goal by rebel Serbs was to create a seperate state and NOT unification with Serbia⬇️
11|
During the Karazdic trial in 2016 the ICTY found that there was no sufficient evidence to synthesise the fact that Milosevic and Karazdic tried to create a “Greater Serbia”.
They also established that Milosevic didn’t participate in ethnic cleansing⬇️
12|
Furthermore, the notion of “Greater Serbia” wasn’t even part of the prosecution case after the appeals of numerous defendants in Serb leadership.
So after their respective appeals no one was incriminated for the project of a “Greater Serbia”⬇️
13|
During the Milan Martic appeal former leader of the Republika (RSK) Sprska Krajina it was found that the political of Krajina leadership did not amount to an common Joint Criminal enterprise⬇️
14|
Another, prominent member during the Croatian war was Vojislav Šešelj.
During his, judgement, in 2016 the chamber dismissed the fact that there was ever a plan to create a so called “Greater Serbia”
They ultimately found no evidence of such a project.⬇️
15|
What’s even more amusing is the fact is that Slobodan Milosevic betray the Serbs of Krajina by cutting support and failing to send in the Yugoslav army to protect.
Completely counterproductive to any such plan⬇️
16| Kosovo
Even during the Milosevic indictment the chamber never mentioned the term “Greater Serbia” when it comes to the Kosovo war.
It was considered “next to nebulous to a point of a common scheme” ⬇️
17| Slovenia:
Many say that Slobodan Milosevic attacked and invaded Slovenia in 1991 during the 10 day war.
The truth is that Milosevic and Borisav Jovic voted against sending the JNA into Slovenia at the state council meeting in 1991⬇️
18|
During the trial of Slobodan Milosevic ICTY prosecutors could not establish a SINGLE document that Milosevic had issued to Serbian fighters in Bosnia or Croatia during the Yugoslav wars⬇️
19|
Many people like to present it as if the collective Serb leadership between RS, FRY and RSK were all best buddies.
When in reality the regularly disagreed over one another’s policies and decisions thus hampering each other⬇️
20| What was really wanted?
The reality is that Serb leadership didn’t want Yugoslavia to be broken up and that Serbs should live under one administrative unit within SFRY.
The prosecution also concluded that they couldn’t find the source of the position of “Greater Serbia”⬇️
