I don't know who is giving comm's advice to @UKLabour and @mcashmanCBE but the past 24 hours suggest they desperately need someone who knows what they're doing, a 🧵:
1/ When making an apology, be clear about who you are apologising to, what you said, and why it was wrong.
This transparent, and spectacularly unsuccessful, attempt at damage limitation from @mcashmanCBE is an #EpicFail.
He doesn't name @RosieDuffield1 and by referencing complaints, he shows his motivation is self preservation, not regret.
And note the lip-service 'unreservedly'
This is the post for which Cashman was apologising.
He accused @RosieDuffield1 of being 'frit or lazy' for not putting herself in harms way.
For context, she has received so many credible threats, and so little support from @UKLabour, that she has to pay for personal protection
So far, so bad.
Then @uklabour shared a post marking the sixth anniversary of the murder of Jo Cox — while refusing to acknowledge the ongoing threats and bullying of @RosieDuffield1 and other women in their party
The silence from @UKLabour @Keir_Starmer @AngelaRayner and others around Cashman's post, and the attacks on @RosieDuffield1 has been deafening.
Credit to @wesstreeting for a rare glimpse of courage and leadership
It's clear that @UKlabour has received multiple complaints about Cashman and calls for the whip to be removed.
And this may have happened...
Cashman's name has quietly disappeared from the party's list of Labour Peers.

Did @uklabour seriously think no one would notice this now-you-see-it-now-you-don't?
To stop further damage, @uklabour and @Keir_Starmer make it clear that:
Cashman's comments were reprehensible
He has lost the whip
@RosieDuffield1 has their full support
