💊In my 30 year quest for optimal health, I’ve tried literally hundreds of supplements.

Almost none of them work.

Here are 6 that do.

🧵

💊Astaxanthin

It’s the king of antioxidants, with a wide range of beneficial effects on energy, inflammation, cognition, and exercise performance. Most people notice that their eyesight improves within 45 minutes of taking it. It also functions as an “internal sunscreen”, preventing sunburn.

I take 12mg every 2-3 days, especially on big climbing days. Astaxanthin softgels contain an oil base so check the ingredients to make sure it’s olive oil or coconut oil and not a seed oil.

💊Allicin

Allicin is derived from garlic. It’s a natural broad-spectrum antibiotic and is especially effective for gut issues. If you have bad gas, indigestion, or even food poisoning, Allicin will usually knock it out in hours.

I’ve found that it eliminates the “morning hangover” after eating too much sugar in the evening.

I recommend the Alliultra brand.

💊Rhodiola/Cordyceps/Ashwagana

These are adaptogens, meaning that they tend to normalize whatever is out of whack. They simultaneously energize and calm the nervous system.

Rhodiola (an herb) is great for energy and also helps with mood.

Cordyceps (a mushroom) boosts athletic performance. If you live at low elevation and travel to the mountains, take cordyceps to stave off altitude sickness.

Ashwaganda (an Ayurvedic herb) does the opposite—it calms the nervous system and is good for anxiety and GREAT for sleep. If you're nervous before a big meeting or presentation, take ashwaganda an hour before. I love the Himalaya brand.

I take these 3 supplements as needed for a few days at a time. They should not be taken daily for extended periods because they will lose their effectiveness.

💊Colloidal Silver

This old-fashioned remedy is the closest thing I’ve found to a miracle cure for sinus and upper respiratory infections. My family has used it to avoid antibiotics countless times—it usually knocks out an infection in 2-3 treatments (24 hours).

Put 1 teaspoon in a nebulizer (we use an Omron CompAir) and breathe through the nose and/or mouth for 10-15 minutes. Do it twice a day for a day or two.

The brand of colloidal silver is super-important—I like MesoSilver (available on Amazon).

P.S. Ignore long-debunked rumors about colloidal silver turning your skin blue or other side effects. That is a different form of silver taken in massive doses. We’re taking a tiny dose of a different solution.

💊DHEA / Adrenal Glandular

Modern life hammers the adrenal glands and many people suffer from adrenal fatigue. If you get fatigue and brain fog in the afternoon that’s a tell-tale sign.

Try Twist25 DHEA cream (the best way to take DHEA is transdermally) and/or Dr. Wilson’s Adrenal Rebuilder (morning and afternoon) and your energy will probably return within a few days.

These supplements are also helpful for recovering from viral infections. My friend Tim, a firefighter, struggled for weeks to recover from the lingering effects of COVID and this “stack” helped him bounce back within a few days.

DHEA is a hormone and Adrenal Rebuilder also contains small amounts of hormone so you should cycle them or only use a few days at a time as needed.

💊Multi-vitamin

I’m generally opposed to multivitamins (especially powders like AG1) with lots of ingredients. They’re highly processed and are likely to contain at least one thing that doesn’t agree with your system.

The only supplement I take almost every day is Vitalium from @PhysiVantage. It’s a simple 10 ingredient formula from exercise science guru Eric Hörst (@Train4Climbing). It covers the basics.

Remember, the best vitamin is FOOD. Locking down your diet will benefit your health far more than any supplement.
