Haaland is a force of nature.
But he wasn’t always like this.
He has great genetics, but was nowhere his full-potential.
Once he started his biohacking journey, he became unstopppable. For example, he's still growing at 23.
Here is what he does:
1. Training
Haaland’s focus in the gym is not image, but performance. The aesthetics come as a byproduct.
He focuses on functional movements:
• Squats
• Lunges
• Lateral lunges
• Reverse lunges
• Sled accelerations
• Hurdle jumps and lateral jumps
Function is purpose.
Biomehanics
Besides his rigorous football training regimen, Haaland puts his focus on biomehanics—the science of movement technique.
His coach says the brain controls the body and everything becomes easy once you program it.
There are 3 anatomical plans when standing upright:
• Median
• Frontal
• Horisontal
Moving your body in all 3 planes of motion occurs during daily activity.
Thus, it’s wise to perform exercises in each plane of motion to build strength, function, and stability in each one.
2. Nutrition
Haaland says normal people don’t eat like him.
His diet consists of eating quality, unprocessed, locally sourced foods.
Let’s start with his favourite:
Raw Meat
People say meat is bad for you. But what meat?
• The meat you get at McDonald’s
• Or the local cow eating grass
Organs as the heart and liver are often more nutrient-rich than the muscle.
Heart is leaner than the majority of stakes.
Liver is high in iron, vitamins B12, A, and D.
Heart has high amounts of zinc, which contributes to the body’s immune system and metabolism working properly.
Also, Haaland eats chicken feet for gelatin consumption—which strengthens tendons.
Raw Milk
Raw milk is his magic potion.
It contains more amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids than pasteurised milk.
Also, it is a better choice for people with lactose intolerance.
He even brings it to his training practice.
Raw Oysters
Being rich in vitamin B12, vitamin D, and selenium—oysters are Haaland’s go-to when traveling.
Vitamin B12 keeps your brain healthy.
Vitamin D prevents bone loss.
Selenium helps body to function properly.
On top of this, oysters boost testosterone.
Water Filter
The 23-year-old Norwegian superstar also revealed that he only drinks water through a complicated filter system.
It filters water from from a toxin called fluoride, which in high doses can lead to serious health issues.
3. Haaland’s Biohacking Tools
First off, grounding.
Connecting directly to the Earth’s surface with your body is effective for recovery and performance.
This is why for Haaland, touching grass, is a non-negotiable.
Blue Light Blockers
Toxic blue light destroys melatonin which messes with our sleep pattern and it disrupts sleep which is crucial for recovery.
Also, he wakes up early to soak up the morning light, to set the body’s clock.
The Nervous System Regulation For Recovery
There are 4 states of the nervous system to consider:
• Sympathetic activation / strengthening (SA/S)
• Parasympathetic activation / strengthening (PA/S)
The area most neglected is PA.
Haaland knows this, so…
He combines both for proper recovery.
• SA/S (cold plunge, cryotherapy)
• PA/S (grounding, yoga, meditation)
Cold plunge alone is terrible for you without PA.
It puts body in a survival mode.
Stay there for long enough and you start to decay. He explains:
Also, Haaland isn’t always so strict.
He smokes an ocassional cigar.
It forces you to tap into the state of PA by slowing down.
You surrender to the feeling of relaxation which makes it a perfect “once-in-a-while” wind down.
