Starmer reversing Brexit? Really?

🧵

This is the referendum question, the only thing there was a mandate for.

Anything else you THINK you voted for is only in your imagination.

Starmer is not rejoining. That's just a fact. So no, he's not reversing Brexit.

"Ah but EEA or Norway is a betrayal".

Here's Nigel Farage proposing EEA or Norway as a solution.

"17 million voted for Brexit, Starmer got fewer votes"

The UK electorate is 41 million. 17 million isn't a "majority", just the biggest group of people who voted.

Starmer also got the biggest group of people who voted. Those 17 million could have stopped him. They didn't.

"He's usurping the will of the people".

So did Brexit. People voted to join the EU in 1972. They voted to leave in 2016. Now they've voted for Starmer, who promised to renegotiate.

Each vote supercedes the previous one. Otherwise democracy would have stopped 800 years ago.

"This isn't what I voted for"

Nobody knows what you voted for. They never did. Nobody wanted to define Brexit, cos if you define it, it looks either insane, impossible or feeble. That's why Brexit took 8 years to complete, and is a mess.

"We voted to leave the EU, so why are we in the ECHR, Europol, etc?"

Things having "Euro" in their name does not make them the EU. Having a trading relationship doesn't make us part of the EU. Being friendly doesn't make us part of the EU.

"You're just bitter cos you lost"

No, I'm bitter cos you idiots fell for a bunch of charlatans with no plan, who fucked off the instant their scheme required anybody to take responsibility, and buggered up the country. I'd have been fine losing to somebody honest or competent.

"You want to rejoin"

Yep. I'd love to. But Starmer isn't doing it.

A grown up, semi-detached relationship with Europe is the best we can get. But that is NOT reversing Brexit, because ... go to the first tweet and start again.
