Sony’s MiniDisc media journey started in November 1992 with the Basic MiniDiscs, including the MDW-60 with 60 minutes of recording time and the MDW-74 with 74 minutes. 2/22

In 1994, Sony introduced the Color Collection for MiniDiscs, featuring solid-colored shells. Models included the MDW-74L in blue, MDW-74R in red, and MDW-74Y in yellow. 3/22

Also in 1994, the Prism MiniDiscs made their debut. These discs featured a distinctive design with a translucent black upper shell. They were initially marketed under the name "Prisma Shell". 4/22

In March 1996, Sony launched the Color Collection Series 2, featuring MiniDiscs with colored translucent shells. Available in Sapphire Blue, Emerald Green, Topaz Yellow, and Ruby Red, these discs marked a significant design shift from earlier models. 5/22

Released in spring 1997, the Prism Series 2 featured MiniDiscs with a deep blue shell, including the MDW-60B (60 minutes) and MDW-74B (74 minutes). This series was distinguished by the “MD began with Sony” phrase on its packaging and its unique color. 6/22

In fall 1996, Sony launched the ES Series with the MDW-60C and MDW-74C MiniDiscs, featuring luxurious white cartridges with high antistatic properties, and a matching sleeve case. 7/22.

In fall 1997, Sony released the Sparkling MiniDiscs in Pearl Blue (MDW-74DL) and Pearl Orange (MDW-74DD). The series was color-coordinated with MD Walkman models. 8/22

In 1999, Sony's Color Collection (3rd Series) featured 74-minute MiniDiscs in five colors, with 80-minute versions released later. They included a Shock Absorbing Coating for added durability. 9/22

The Prism (3rd Series), launched in September 1998, featured an orange shell with a new shock-absorbing mechanism to suppress vibrations. This series included 60-minute MDW-60H, 74-minute MDW-74H, and the later-released 80-minute MDW-80H. 10/22

The Lumina series, aimed at a more stylish audience, debuted in 1998 with 60-minute MDW-60FL and 74-minute MDW-74FL in light blue, and 60-minute MDW-60FP and 74-minute MDW-74FP in pink. These discs featured a milky white top shell with silver glitter. 13/22

In 1999, the Neige series offered semi-transparent MiniDiscs in 74-minute (5MDW74G) and 80-minute (5MDW80NE) versions. 14/22

The RED HOT series, also released in 1999, included three 80-minute discs (3MDW80RH) featuring a distinctive Utada Hikaru design, the campaign's mascot, and a prominent RED HOT logo. 15/22

In fall 2001, the Color Collection (4th Series) featured MD in Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red, Emerald Green, Amethyst Violet, and Onyx Black. Replacing yellow with Amethyst Violet, these discs included a writable label and were available in 74-minute and 80-minute variants. 16/22

Released on July 10, 2000, the MD2000 featured a magnesium alloy shell and a robust MD jewel case. It was a high-end upgrade in the MiniDisc lineup. 17/22

The Prism (4th Series), released in fall 2001, introduced a gold shell and was available in 60-minute, 74-minute, and 80-min options. The Prism (5th Series), which debuted in 2002, continued this theme with the addition of 60-minute discs, making it the only series at the time to offer this length. 18/22

The Bianca series, which launched in mid-February 2002, offered a stylish cool white shell and was available exclusively in 5 and 10-disc packs in five different colors: green, red, blue, yellow, and black. 19/22

The Lumina (2nd Series), released in early 2002, was more vibrant compared to its predecessor, featuring blue and pink discs in 80-minute capacity only. 20/22

The Neige (3rd Series), introduced in summer 2002, came with redesigned slipcases and was available in packs of 5 and 10. The series maintained its semi-transparent aesthetic and included both 74-minute and 80-minute variants. 21/22

The second series Bianca, released in 2004, came in five different colors: Marshmallow Peach, Mint, Orange, Grape, and Chocolate. It was available in packs of 5 and 10. 22/22
