Sony’s MiniDisc era featured various blank media options to suit different recording needs. Here’s an overview of the evolution of MiniDisc blank media by year.

Sony’s MiniDisc media journey started in November 1992 with the Basic MiniDiscs, including the MDW-60 with 60 minutes of recording time and the MDW-74 with 74 minutes. 2/22 Image
In 1994, Sony introduced the Color Collection for MiniDiscs, featuring solid-colored shells. Models included the MDW-74L in blue, MDW-74R in red, and MDW-74Y in yellow. 3/22 Image
Also in 1994, the Prism MiniDiscs made their debut. These discs featured a distinctive design with a translucent black upper shell. They were initially marketed under the name "Prisma Shell". 4/22 Image
In March 1996, Sony launched the Color Collection Series 2, featuring MiniDiscs with colored translucent shells. Available in Sapphire Blue, Emerald Green, Topaz Yellow, and Ruby Red, these discs marked a significant design shift from earlier models. 5/22 Image
