Few things about exploding communication pagers

Thread ⬇️

First off, it's still early, and reports are developing. Keep an eye on the news in the coming hours or days for more updates.

Relax, we're talking about pagers here, not smartphones. Pagers are much older and far less powerful compared to the smartphones we use today.

When a smartphone battery explodes, you'll notice smoke and fire.

For a battery to explode, you need to physically damage it.

And yes, it's not caused by software.

We'll get more information in the coming hours, but here are my two cents:

- This is not a hack.
- The pagers were likely "modified", someone added a small explosive charge.
- They probably intercepted and tampered with the pagers before they were shipped.

It's also worth noting that an explosive charge can be triggered remotely, which is nothing new.

Here's a link to the pager they used, in case you want to check it out or get one yourself.

I have the same opinion than an ex-IDF Intel agent. I’m not sure how to deal with that 😅

Someone short circuit 24 18650 battery for the lol. See this big light? Also, you don’t need 24 battery for a pager 😅

There is always a presentation at Defcon
