BENIDORM FEST 2025 SONGWRITER DEEP DIVE 🕸️📊🇪🇸
One of the most anticipated national finals in recent years, BenidormFest is back once again. Of the 16 songs 8 have connections to previous entries in the world of Eurovision. Let's take a closer look (a thread 🧵) #BenidormFest2025
Celine Van Heel - "La casa"
While "La casa" will be Celine's first release, her team features clear Eurovision experience in the form of Alfred García, who represented Spain in Lisbon in 2018. On top of his entries from the 2018 selection, Alfred also took part in Benidorm 2023
David Afonso - "Amor barato"
True Junior Eurovision royalty involved here! Alejandro and Luis took Spain to second place last year in Nice, and are once again behind the Spanish JESC entry this time on home turf. "Amor barato" marks their first collaboration for the adult contest
Henry Semler - "No lo ves"
Last year José "Pepe" Bernabé was behind Noan's "Te echo de -", missing out on the final by less than 10 points. Will his 2025 effort reach the top?
J Kbello - "VIP"
Both the pre and post of Benidorm present here. Dangelo Ortega was behind Blas Cantó's two entries for Eurovision, while José Otero himself took part in Benidorm 2023, making the final and finishing a respectable 7th in a strong field
Kuve - "Loca por ti"
Sofia Coll stans will be pleased to know, that songwriter Juan Sueiro is here to stay in Benidorm Fest. Will he be able to make the final once again?
Mel Ömana - "I'm a Queen"
Our second Alejandro Martínez song this year. As the only songwriter of the year with credits on two entries, Alejandro becomes the sixth ever writer to have multiple entries in the same edition of modern Benidorm
Melody - "Esa diva"
A major star from a young age, Melody came close to representing Spain, losing only via. tie-break rules to Soraya in the Spanish NF of 2009. Now she's back, with help from Alberto Lorite, who previously wrote Azúcar Moreno's "Postureo"
Sonia & Selena - "Reinas"
While "Quireo bailar" only finished 9th in the Spanish selection of 2001, it managed to become the dance hit of the summer. As if that wasn't enough of a dance credential, "Reinas" was written by one half of Nebulossa - Mark Dasousa
The remaining 9 songs do not seem to have any connections to previous entries:
Carla Frigo: Bésame
Chica Sobresalto: Mala feminista
Daniela Blasco: Uh nana
DeTeresa: La pena
K!ngdom: Me gustas tú
Lachispa: Hartita de llorar
Lucas Bun: Te escribo en el cielo
Mawot: Raggio di sole
And that's all! Hope you enjoyed reading this thread, and found it informative. If you did, make sure to follow me so you don't miss out on similar deep dives I will be making for all other national finals this season. Until then, take care!
