SUPERNOVA 2025 SONGWRITER DEEP DIVE 🇱🇻🕸️📊
Our second set of songs of the season are out (at least in snippets)! And among the artists and writers we see many familiar faces, with 15/20 songs being connected to previous entries. Let's take a closer look (a thread 🧵)
Bel Tempo and Legzdina - "The Water"
Andis and Julijs are participating together as "Bel Tempo", but have previously authored songs for Supernova on their own, each reaching second place, Andis with "Heart Beats" and Julijs with "Hush"
Chris Noah - "Romance isn't Dead"
An important songwriter in the Baltics recently, Chris wrote Monika Linkyte's "Stay", and also worked on bangers like "Hush" and "Let Me Think About Me". This is his first involvement as a performer
Citi Zēni - "Ramtai"
No strangers to Eurovision, the boys represented Latvia in Turin with "Eat Your Salad". Fans may remember songwriter Emmy for her MGP entry "Witch Woods"
Grēta Grantiņa - "Monster"
Lots of different writers involved here, including Triana Park member Kristaps, The Ludvig, and Simon Davis, who was involved with Leona's "Undream You" in this year's German selection
Julianna - "Something in the Water"
The smallest graph of this selection, Julianna was a writer on Toms Kalderauskis' song in 2023
Justs - "Fit Right"
Having taken Latvia to the final in 2016, Justs is hoping to return. Helping him are writers behind "Hush" and "The Moon is Rising"
Katrīna Gupalo - "Scarlett Challenger"
2024 fan favourite Katrina Gupalo is back, with her "The Cat's Song" cowriter Edgars Vilcāns returning as well
Luka - "Stronger"
Luka's song was written by one of the most frequent songwriters in Supernova history, Kaspars Ansons. Kaspars has yet to have a song win, will this be his time?
Markus Riva - "Bigger Than This"
A true veteran of Latvian selection, Markus is back after failing to make the lineup last year. Markus has gotten close to winning many times, is this finally his year? Helping him is Roman Nepomiashchyi, who wrote one of his previous 2nd-places
Marta - "Lovable"
Making her third appearance, Marta is helped by frequent writer Reinis "Raum" Straume, who has himself competed on a few occasions. Also in the mix is Jānis Jačmenkins, who has been involved with entries like "Eat Your Salad" and "Let Me Think About Me"
Palú - "Delusional"
Citi Zēni singer Roberts Memmēns was behind this song. On top of his CZ involvement, Roberts has also participated as a soloist, and part of group Framest
Rūta Dūduma - "Chemical"
No stranger to Latvian selections, Rūta makes her return after a nine year absence. In the credits we spot her fellow competitor the Ludvig
Sinerģija - "Bound by the Light"
Fans will remember Madara for her cello-based fan favourite "Esamība", getting her third place in 2018. She attempted to return in 2020, controversially failing to make the final lineup past auditions. Is this her turn to win?
The Ludvig - "Līgo"
The Ludvig made second place in 2017, and is making his grand return this year, authoring three songs, including his own. Also in the mix is Jānis Ķirsis, another member of Framest
Toms Kalderauskis - "Domāju, tu nāc"
His fifth attempt at Supernova, Toms is hoping to finally break through. Helping him is Kate Elpo, who was also involved with Patrīcija Spale's "Heaven's Raining Down on Me" last year
The remaining 5 songs do not seem to have any connections to previous entries
Adelina - "Electric Love"
Emilija - "Heartbeat"
KoBra - "Zelts"
Tautumeitas - "Bur man laimi"
Tepat - "Sadzejot"
