In previous threads I've established that peak feminine beauty occurs around age 22. I don't think anyone really disagrees with this. In fact, most people would say it's actually age 21.

Some claim masculine beauty isn't affected by age. But this isn't true. Several sources show that peak masculine beauty occurs in the mid thirties on average.

Here are some famous examples of men in their mid thirties.

Another popular myth is that women hate age gaps. That isn't true either. Big age gaps are common in romance novels.

And not just romance novels for old ladies. Check out these five-star reviewers.

Have you ever heard of the half-your-age-plus-seven rule? Well, it has no basis. It just sounds nice.

So women do like age gaps. In fantasy.

But wait--

The truth isn't so clear cut. Women might like age gaps in fantasy, but they rarely choose them in reality.

So we have to explain why women fantasize about age gaps, but don't choose them. It turns out this isn't actually very hard to explain.

First, the average man isn't the ideal man. The average man ages badly, and most guys don't measure up in the first place either.

Second, and perhaps more important, there are practical and social obstacles to starting age-gap relationships.

So far the situation is a little confused. It kinda seems like women like age gaps but it kinda doesn't. So we have to take another approach to find the answer. It's called math.

This chart is simpler than it looks. It shows how the difference between peak masculine beauty and peak feminine beauty affect relationships that start at different times. I'll explain it in the next few posts.

The typical relationship begins in the mid twenties and involves a very small age gap. The chart shows with some simple and irrefutable math that these relationships can start off great, but they run into trouble as they move through time.

Big age gaps run into trouble too. In fact, a twenty-two-year gap can be just as problematic as a two-year gap. If you don't believe me, look at the chart again.

For a couple to remain equally satisfied through time--from a beauty perspective--the age gap has to match the gap between peak feminine and peak masculine beauty. And that, dear readers, is about half a generation.

I call this half-generation age gap the goldilocks gap.

Now a torrent of objections will roll in. Well, I'm ready for them.

The first of these is that small age gaps are the most egalitarian. As I explain here, that's not only false, it's the opposite of the truth. A half-generation age gap is the most egalitarian.

The second most common objection is "%$*&!* *@*#@!!!🖕," which is supposed to represent random cursing. Because there really isn't an argument to make.

We started the thread by observing that peak feminine beauty is 22, while peak masculine beauty is 34. And 34-22= ...well, 12.

The third objection is that beauty isn't all that matters and character factors will change the ideal age gap. I agree. But are you SURE they'll SHORTEN the ideal age gap? Because it doesn't look that way. In fact, maybe you don't want to bring up that issue at all...

It's time to step back down to reality. A half-generation age gap might be ideal, but due to social and practical obstacles, your relationships probably aren't going to have one.

Small age gaps are the norm, and that's what you should plan on. But you're probably wondering: what should you do about the problems this will program into your future due to some really simple arithmetic?

"Age-gap relationships mainly benefit men. They're lucky to have such a late peak. They use it to take advantage of powerless young victims!"
