In every upscale US suburb, Good Liberals obsessively hate Modi for:
-granting asylum to religious minorities from neighboring Islamic states
-integrating Kashmir into normal governance instead of maintaining its reservation status
-prosecuting terrorists
Modi’s the most popular & productive leader that India’s had since independence (eg their per capita real GDP growth for the 1st 30 years was even slower than China’s under Mao). But the NYT & India’s “elite human capital” diaspora love bad Muslim clients
My mom’s intelligent, upstanding, & relatively unideological, but she’ll just randomly start ranting about “evil Modi” whenever India comes up—without even remembering the right facts in the fake NYT Brahmin diaspora narratives against him—no matter how many times I correct her…
My mom’s an engineer, proudly identifies with Reaganism, fully white, her family’s been here for generations, I doubt she has any Indian or Muslim friends, & she supports invading Afghanistan & France banning Burqas to stomp out Islam. But NYT-brain on behalf of bad clients wins!
This is why Rotherham happened: bc the NYT et al so thoroughly control “status” with such little accountability for anything but woke feelies that you can tell your decent upstanding citizenry the brutish facts repeatedly but these just won’t sink in when prestige says otherwise.
I’d naively expect Brahmin whigs to hate it when their foundationally anti-Muslim state faces violent Islamic extremism, just as I’d naively expect white whigs to hate it when their foundationally anti-tribal state faces violent tribal extremism—but they both now like clientelism
The problem is that there are more obvious gains from “extensive axis” cosmopolitanism than from “intensive axis” ethnocentrism, but also more potential for the former to turn toward corrupt unaccountable parasitism (eg as in Robin Hanson’s cultural drift)
Managerialism thus takes over with recognizably malign effects by adopting MLM-like norms/forms (burning thru new peoples & places just like Mary Kay burns thru divorcee circles & CutCo burns thru high schools & Marxism-Leninism-Maoism burnt thru the 60s)
So the next natural step is making this MLMism overt so various ingroups can openly use it for coordinating & subsidizing their own intensive & fragmentary development; when it’s covert, it only helps cosmopolitans break down barriers & homogenize groups.
