Broke: Race differences in IQ
Woke: Heterogeneity of population's early development experiences

I'm annoyed by the author's obfuscating their findings in impenetrable language, but there are real risks to not being a lib, especially in academia, and I'd much rather economists do this than live in fantasy-world where Open Borders is a trillion-dollar bill on the sidewalk

Their metrics are (ancestry-adjusted) statehist and agyears. These work much better than their unadjusted counterparts for predicting modern development (US is more like England than Zambia) and explain eg why Latin America is Like That. But racism would work even better.

Like most deep roots findings, this is mostly genetic rather than cultural, hence why the languages spoken by people's ancestors (a proxy for race) are so much more important than what they speak today (a proxy for culture/mass education).

Deep roots in general (places look like their populations) is one of those things that's extremely obvious if you just look at the world (why is NZ so much nicer than India?), but almost entirely ignored by public discourse, which is part of why immigration is so hard to oppose.
