Democrats tried to stall with a 16-hour bill reading stunt. Now it’s time for a "vote-a-rama" — a nonstop series of votes on amendments running late into the night.
Final passage could come Tuesday morning.
3/ This is the culmination of months of negotiations.
The bill includes:
✅ Extension of Trump tax cuts
✅ Mandatory E-Verify
✅ Funding for new border wall
✅ Deep cuts to IRS & “green energy” boondoggles
✅ Rollback of Biden-era regs
✅ Stronger work requirements for welfare
4/ The Senate bill tightens welfare across the board:
🔹 Work requirements: 80 hours/month for Medicaid
🔹 Cuts to SNAP (food stamps) fraud
🔹 Caps provider taxes used by blue states to game federal Medicaid $$$
🔹 Adds a $25B rural hospital rescue fund (Collins wants $100B)
5/ Sen. Rick Scott objects to another provision: raising the SALT cap to $40K.
He’s right. SALT favors high-tax blue states and subsidizes their failure.
But House moderates demanded it. Without SALT, Johnson may not have the votes to pass it through the House.
6/ Rand Paul won’t vote for it unless the $5 trillion debt ceiling hike is removed.
The House version raised it by $4T. The Senate upped it to $5T. CBO rules forced it.
Trump says it’s temporary—HUGE cuts are coming.

7/ Senate Republicans can only afford 3 defections.
If 4 GOP Senators vote no, the bill dies. But if it’s tied 50–50, Vice President JD Vance casts the deciding vote.
And he will.
The GOP is this close to delivering one of the biggest conservative wins since 2017.
