1) This Trump executive order is extremely dangerous to civil liberties. For starters, the term “vagrancy” hasn’t been used in an official capacity in decades. (By the way, “vagrancy” is how racist Southern sheriffs put people into chain gangs.) It gets worse, so let’s begin⬇️
2) Civil commitment is the involuntary incarceration of people by adjudicating them to be a danger to themselves or others, and other serious mental illnesses. Notice the phrase “long-term”? They go in and may never get out. It gets worse. So let’s continue⬇️
3) See the word “or” that I circled there? This shows you this order is not directed solely to the homeless. This means ANYONE they adjudicate according to their parameters can be detained and institutionalized, not just the homeless. Without genuine due process. Let’s continue⬇️
4) Here again is that “or” word showing that you don’t need to be homeless for the government to do a civil commitment on you. And see that “other appropriate facilities”? ICE detention camps, perhaps. “Other available means” is vague, but chilling. Let’s continue⬇️
5) Notice also “to the maximum extent permitted by law”. That could be lifelong. But the “other available means” is vague, meaning they can use other methods besides civil commitment to jail you in “appropriate facilities”. (Concentration camps, perhaps?) Let’s continue⬇️
6) So this is what civil commitment is. And because the Trump regime will claim it’s “treatment” and not punishment, they can basically incarcerate anyone they deem “a threat to themselves or others.” Now, has a totalitarian regime done that before? Yes. Let’s see that next⬇️
7) The Soviet Union used civil commitment to suppress political dissent. Everyone needs to pay attention to this because of the way the executive order is worded, which I showed you. It literally stinks of this totalitarianism. Let’s continue⬇️
8) These “institutions” would most likely be operated by GEO Group, since they already operate the ICE concentration camps. These “institutions” will be nightmarish, make no mistake. And once committed, contact with the incarcerated will be extremely difficult. Let’s continue⬇️
9) Again, this will be the most likely federal contractor that will operate these “institutions”. You can bet “chemical restraints” (Thorazine) will be used on the inmates, excuse me, the “patients”. Now, does the funding exist? Yes. So let’s see that next⬇️
10) Does anyone really believe $45 billion dollars is going to immigration detention facilities alone? I would say they’re planning on a much larger influx of detainees. And I would say this new executive order is telling you those detainees will be Americans. Let’s continue⬇️
11) It’s obvious the Trump regime could use this executive order to do this. They arrest dissidents on some bullshit charge, deem them “a danger to themselves or others” or “mentally ill” and into an institution they go. Let’s continue⬇️
12) I’m not saying Trump is going to do this. But what they’re planning to do could sure as hell lead up to this. Totalitarian regimes always start with people they think no one cares about and then they go from there. This Trump order is NOT just about the homeless.
13) ADDENDUM: The executive order was certainly written by Heritage Foundation architects of totalitarianism. Project 2025.
14) ADDENDUM: A thread I did last year on the Heritage Foundation “writer” of the article screenshotted in post 13 above.
15) Also, just because it’s an executive order doesn’t mean they can’t enforce it. Or that GOP Congress won’t turn it into a law. It’ll probably be codified into law, and they’ll just enforce it anyway in the meantime.
