California isn't on this list, but we know the NG and ICE are already in CA!!

JAG (Judge Advocate General's Corps) officers, who are military lawyers, typically prosecute violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) within the military justice system, handling courts-martial for service members.
However, they can also be authorized to prosecute misdemeanors in civilian jurisdictions under specific circumstances.
In August 2025, the Department of Defense sent 20 military JAG officers to Washington, D.C., to assist in prosecuting misdemeanors, authorized by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.
This action involves temporarily assigning JAG officers to the Department of Justice as special assistant U.S. attorneys. While legally permissible because JAG officers are federal attorneys, this practice has raised concerns about the appropriateness of using military personnel in civilian law enforcement roles and the optics of militarizing domestic legal functions.
Normally, misdemeanors in federal jurisdictions like Washington, D.C., are handled by assistant U.S. attorneys or "special assistants," which may include government lawyers from other agencies, including JAG officers when detailed for such duties. When acting in this capacity, JAG officers appear in court in civilian attire and operate under federal prosecutorial authority rather than military jurisdiction.
