Thread on California NGOs. Who works for and leads California NGOs? Mostly women, who are very starkly overrepresented in nonprofit employment and leadership.
Direct government funding is 30% of nonprofit revenue; the rest is tax-advantaged.
NGOs are effectively para-statal; a huge fraction of government services (eg 32% of Medi-Cal) are administered by them and a large chunk of their revenue is tax revenue. They then lobby the govt for ever more $$$ for their causes.
Roughly $9B comes from the Feds. I am of the view that if the Feds can't administer the program, they shouldn't be paying for it.
Government NGO funding tends to go to "human services" (read: making sure there are sufficient numbers of homeless junkies in the world's most expensive city).
Self-licking ice cream cone where NGOs lobby the government and mobilize constituencies to give them even more money and power. This is how the California Democratic Party machine operates.
Anyways, close the monasteries, destroy the nonprofits and the foundations. They lack the legitimacy/necessity of government and the orientation towards consumers of market entities, and so tend to be full of useless and deranged activists.
