We are in a reading crisis.

People have access to more books than any point in history, but are reading less than ever.

Here are 10 concerning charts about the state of reading:

1) The number of people who read on any given day has been falling since 2004

2) 46% of U.S. adults read 0 books a year

3) Readers used to outnumber non-readers 2 to 1. Now non-readers outnumber readers 3 to 1.

4) The average time spent reading is down for both men and women

5) Reading for pleasure has declined over the past two decades

6) Global PISA test scores for reading have plummeted (yellow line)

7) Both reading and literacy scores in high-income countries are falling

8) Reading for pleasure has decreased over the past 15 years while watching TV has increased.

9) The average number of books read has dropped from 15.3 to 12.6 books

10) The median adult reads just 2 books a year

PS: If you're someone who's looking to get back into reading books but don't know where to start...
