#SupremeCourt hears petition seeking guidelines on media briefing by the police
J Bagchi: the manual will restrain the police for making overenthusiastic briefings
J Bagchi: this will also stop the media from spinning the yarn and running the media trial
Sr Adv Gopal S : this all started with the Sahara Case
J Bagchi: then we were not dealing with intermediaries etc
CJI: people are dying on the road , instead of helping them they start filming them
Gopal S: the problem today is everybody is a media, everybody with a mobile phone is a media, how do we tackle this
CJI mentions how media people put red labels of 'media' behind their car, implying 'dont dare to touch us'
Gopal S: I know some people at the bar who have managed to pass the toll without giving tax just by SC Adv sticker on the car
CJI: why don;t you think of filing about the co-ordinated wings of the police, the media or the social media who are responsible?
Gopal S: Mr Mehta has very strong views on this
SG: I have strong views on everything...the mainstream media is by and large responsible, but what to do with those who have mobiles, we have tabloids on virtual media who are working as blackmailers
CJI: this is almost like a digital arrest , unfortunately we donot have a provision like that
Bench allows the petitioner to withdraw the plea
