#Breaking: Bombay High Court comes down heavily on the Maharashtra Government for its failure to arrest the son of Cabinet Minister Bharat Gogawale, who is named as an accused in a rioting case related to civic polls in Pune.

Justice Madhav Jadmar: Is the Chief Minister of Maharashtra so helpless that he is unable to do anything in the case of the son of a Cabinet Minister ?

#MaharashtraGovernment #BombayHighCourtImage J Jamdar: How can he continue to hold the post of a Cabinet Minister when his son is absconding? In fact, I have read in the media that the Minister is given the honour to foist the flag on Republic Day at Raigad... This is completely political... Is this the rule of law in Maharashtra ?

#SupremeCour to continue hearing habeas corpus petition filed by Dr Gitanjali Angmo (@GitanjaliAngmo) seeking to illegal the detention of Ladakhi social activist and her husband #sonamwangchuk (@Wangchuk66) detention under the National Security Act as illegal.

Wangchuk was arrested after the #Protest for #statehood turned violent.

Bench: Justices Aravind Kumar and PB VaraleImage Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal(for Angmo) to continue his arguments.

Sibal has so far argued

1. all materials on which detention is based not furnished, especially the 4 videos and therefore right to effective representation violated

2. materials referred in detention order is irrelevant as some of it dates back to 2024 but detaining authority is arguing that if those materials are discarded, the detention will be deemed to be based on other grounds as per S. 5A of NSA- sibal argues S. 5A does not apply in this case

3. District Magistrate, who issued the detention order, did not apply his mind and copy pasted the grounds of the SSP, which suggested the detention whereas, the law requires due satisfication of the authority.

Bench: Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria

Last week, the matter was heard on 3 days, with the Bench primarily examining the issue of stray dogs in institutional premises and noting the failure of municipal authorities

Intervenors (dog lovers and NGOs) pray for modification of the Court's earlier directions, so that stray dogs are released in the same area from where they are picked up

They have suggested some scientific models, adoption of which can tackle dog population and eliminate dog bite incidents in a few years

Victims' side has argued inter-alia for removal of stray dogs from residential complexes/housing societiesImage Sr Adv Arvind Datar (for an organization): Order dt. Nov 7 with regard to institutional areas is fully justified, supported by Rules. No need for any expert committee. There's already a committee, reports are on record. ABC Rules are ultra-vires PC Act. That issue can be taken later

J Mehta: You're the first who has come to the rescue of the order

Datar: Your lordships must also consider the issue of feral dogs in wildlife areas...on behalf of conservation groups, we filed writ petition in this court...there are 9 critically endangered species in Ladakh, etc...the court called for response, report is scary...55000 free ranging feral dogs in Ladakh...situation is grave. Times of India report was preceded by a NY Times report.
