Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZA Bhutto), who served as President (1971–1973) and Prime Minister (1973–1977) of Pakistan, is credited with several foundational achievements that shaped the country's constitutional, nuclear, and diplomatic landscape following the 1971 crisis.

His tenure is often viewed as a "transition to democracy" that empowered the working class while establishing long-term national institutions.
Key achievements and milestones of Z.A. Bhutto include:
1973 Constitution: Following the dismemberment of Pakistan,

Bhutto united diverse political factions to draft and adopt the first unanimously approved, permanent Constitution of Pakistan in 1973. This constitution restored parliamentary democracy and remains the supreme law of the country.
Nuclear Weapons Program:

Bhutto is regarded as the "Father of Pakistan's Nuclear Deterrence". He prioritized the program as a national necessity, bringing in scientists like Abdul Qadeer Khan and strengthening the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission to ensure national security.
The Simla Agreement (1972):

After Pakistan's defeat in the 1971 war, Bhutto negotiated with Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to sign the Simla Agreement. This treaty secured the return of 5,000 square miles of occupied Pakistani territory and paved the way for the repatriation of 93,000 prisoners of war

Hosting the 1974 Islamic Summit: Bhutto enhanced Pakistan's international standing by hosting the second Islamic Summit Conference in Lahore in 1974. The event was attended by leaders from 37 Muslim countries, marking a major success in strengthening pan-Islamic ties and

Pakistan’s relations with the Arab world.
Economic Reform and Nationalization: Under a socialist agenda, Bhutto nationalized major industries, banks, and insurance companies in 1972–1974 to reduce income disparity. He introduced labour reforms, including old-age pensions,

group insurance, and increased worker rights.
Civil Administration & Social Reforms:
Passport Reforms: He made passports accessible, enabling large-scale migration to the Middle East, which improved the economic conditions of many families.
Identity Cards:

His government introduced the first national identity card system.
Land Reforms: He reduced the ceiling of land ownership and redistributed hundreds of thousands of acres to landless tenants.

Foreign Policy Shift: He transformed Pakistan's pro-West foreign policy to a more independent, nationalist agenda, focusing on stronger ties with China and the Muslim world.
Long live Quaid e Awam
ZA Bhutto Shaheed,
the one and the only.
