7/ …but even to simply uphold the most ordinary (“run-of-the-mill”) national interests.

8/ "We allow our ships and cargo to be seized by (formally) “neutral” states—without the slightest response; we supply (at a discount?) oil and gas, as well as other essential resources, to states that openly manufacture missiles and drones that rain down daily on the heads…

9/ …of Russian soldiers and civilians; we “pretend to be friends” with neighbours who openly declare claims on Russian territory; we, in the end, amid the “victory cries” and unrestrained boasting (and equally unrestrained lies) of the state media—are incapable of defeating…

10/ …an enemy that 10 years ago was a pitiful sight both militarily and socio-economically, but which we ourselves allowed to “grow up” and strengthen through our own insane (to the point of utter idiocy) actions and inactions.

11/ "We tolerate these morons in power in the hope that they will “come to their senses” and, after all (if only out of self-preservation), defend Russia from the external enemy, — but these morons are becoming more and more “cowardly” by the day, all the while continuing…

12/ …to profit unchecked from the difficult and unsuccessful war they themselves are losing. Why should anyone (the whole country) respect us? Who would actually ally themselves with “outright losers”? — Rhetorical questions…

13/ "Right now—as I write these lines—a “parade” has formed on our parade ground: “boxes” [detachments] from all the [prison] units, with epaulettes and other such nonsense sewn onto their uniforms.

14/ "All of this is set against the backdrop of two “plywood-and-fabric” painted “tanks” of the most primitive kind and a similar “airplane” with a rag (but full-size) doll—a “pretend pilot”—in the cockpit.

15/ "The “parade” is about to begin, in which—as they march past the grandstand with staff from the penal colony administration and “FSIN [Federal Prison service] veterans”—the convicts participating will attempt to “earn” themselves “rewards” (of a “re-educational” nature)…
