Andy Burnham Will Not Say Genocide: Gaza, Manchester, and the Zone Methodology He Refuses to Name
What did Burnham build in Manchester, and how is it related to Gaza?
Zone Fever is the underlying framework no one is talking about.

Trump and Kushner are planning what they call the Riviera of the Middle East on the rubble of Gaza.
170 luxury towers. Hotels. Villas on the waterfront. Data centres. Advanced manufacturing.
A deregulated Special Economic Zone with favourable tariff rates.
Gaza's two million residents to be relocated. At least temporarily. In exchange for digital tokens.
Al Jazeera's professor of architecture called it the Vegas-ification of Gaza.
The plan treats Gaza, in his words, as vacant beachfront property.
It is not vacant. It is cleared.
There is a difference between vacant land and cleared land. The plan does not acknowledge that difference. Neither does Burnham.
Now look at what Burnham built in Manchester.
A publicly designated Investment Zone, signed off with the Tories. £160 million in state aid. A Mayoral Development Corporation with compulsory purchase powers. Planning friction removed. Private capital invited in.
Blackstone acquired the land. The zone made it valuable. Blackstone sold at a premium.
The mechanism in both cases is identical.
Clear the existing population's claim to the land. Remove the friction. Designate a zone. Invite private capital. Build luxury development and data infrastructure for global investors. Describe it as regeneration.
In Gaza the clearance was military. In Manchester it was structural. Compulsory purchase orders. Rent inflation. Affordable housing ratios of under five percent from £600 million of public money.
The difference is degree, not kind.
Gandhi understood that capitalism's violence does not require blood to flow in order to produce absolute ruination. Naomi Klein named that logic 'disaster capitalism' in 2007.
Andy Burnham is practising it in Manchester. Trump and Kushner are practising it in Gaza.
The scale differs. The mechanism does not.
Burnham apologised for Labour not getting it right on Gaza.
Al Jazeera noted: "not getting it right" is what you say about an underbaked cheesecake, not a policy stance on a genocide in which over 73,000 Palestinians have been killed.
He has never used the word genocide. Not once. Not before becoming PM. Not after.
A politician who built investment zone architecture in Manchester, made Blackstone's land enormously valuable through public money, and presided over compulsory purchase powers that could displace thousands, has a very specific reason to keep Gaza and Manchester in separate compartments.
Naming the genocide would require naming the mechanism.
Naming the mechanism would require naming what he built.
The zone is what the clearance was for.
In Gaza the world can see it. Kushner presented it at Davos in January 2026 to the World Economic Forum. Glass towers on the Mediterranean. A Special Economic Zone. A Middle East Riviera.
In Manchester it took three years of investigative research to make the same logic visible.
Burnham is now Prime Minister.
He will not say genocide.
He will expand the zone architecture nationally, with James Purnell, CEO of a private equity owned lobbying firm advising Amazon, Uber and BP, as his chief of staff.
The soft left mask is holding.
The mechanism underneath it is the same mechanism being applied to Palestinian land.
This is not a comparison designed to diminish what is happening in Gaza.
73,000 Palestinians killed. Two million displaced. A luxury resort planned on the rubble.
It is a comparison designed to make visible what zone architecture does wherever it is applied, and to ask why the politician who built it in Manchester cannot find the language to name it in Gaza.
As Starmer is to BlackRock, so Burnham is to Blackstone.
I am a volunteer who has exposed the 'free zones-by-stealth' policy eclipsing the UK commons since Brexit, with zero any mention of this in the MSM and barely any coverage in alternative media.
