Ukraine’s new Commander-in-Chief Drapatyi in 2023: Ukraine is inconvenient for Russia’s history, because without Ukraine there is no Russia or empire.
That is why they still try to control us. Ukraine did not appear in 1991; it has centuries of culture, traditions and army.

Drapatyi: In 7th or 8th grade, I dreamed of becoming a tank officer. After school, I entered the Kharkiv Tank Troops Institute.
That is how my military path began. My rule in life is simple: whatever I do, I do it well and responsibly, so I have nothing to be ashamed of.

Drapatyi: In the hardest moments, the first rule is: do not panic. Assess the situation, look at the best case and the worst case, and see how to prevent the worst.
What helps me is cold calculation and a clear read of the situation before making a decision.

Drapatyi: In the 1990s and 2000s, people were not valued the way they are now. Steel can be lost and rebuilt. A person is the highest value.
Soldiers must know their commander cares for them and values their lives. We are changing mentally and moving away from Soviet habits.

Drapatyi: When "green men" appeared in Crimea and separatists tried to seize power in Donetsk and Luhansk, we knew we would have to fight.
As battalion commander, I told my officers: restore readiness, fill the ranks, and be ready to use weapons.

Drapatyi: Russia is not a neighbor. It is a nation and leadership with no right to exist. For centuries, nothing civilized changed in its mentality or imperial behavior.
Before 2014, I suspected war was coming. After 1991, full independence from Russia was a matter of time.

Drapatyi: Separatists and Russian security services wanted to seize power in the city and build a foothold in the southeast: Sloviansk, Donetsk, Mariupol.
They fueled civilians with alcohol and anger to block Ukrainian forces and let collaborators take control.
