/ Today, it was revealed Mitt Romney may run for the Senate. Please keep these facts in mind over the next few days. (thread)
/ Mitt Romney is 70. Hillary Clinton is 69. They were born a little over seven months apart.
/ Mitt Romney has a JD/MBA from Harvard. Hillary Clinton has a JD from Yale.
/ Mitt Romney spent the first two decades of his career working for investment funds and management consulting firms. Wall Street.
/ Hillary Clinton spent those first two decades doing IP law but also extensive pro bono work on children’s rights and women’s rights.
/ Mitt Romney had every advantage in the world but didn’t take an interest in civics until his 1994 run for the Senate. He lost.
/ Hillary Clinton took a very deep, enduring interest in civics at a young age but was often forced to take a backseat because of sexism.
/ Mitt Romney’s only office held is exactly one term as Governor of Massachusetts. He had a 34% approval at the end of that term.
/ HRC served 8 years as First Lady, 8 years in the U.S. Senate, 4 years as Secretary of State + has 50+ years of political experience.
/ Mitt Romney’s $250 million came through private equity investment + consulting. Wall Street. With connections from his wealthy father.
/ HRC’s personal est. $51 million came primarily through book sales, paid speeches, and some consulting. Bill made $189 million from same.
/ HRC comes from a blue collar background. Her father owned a small textile business. Hers is the classic “bootstraps” story.
/ Romney doesn’t appear to have had a firm political philosophy in his entire life aside from “capitalism is good for America”.
/ Romney has flipped back and forth on issues so often and so opportunistically that it constitutes an entire large thread in itself.
/ HRC transformed from a young “mind conservative and heart liberal” to a pragmatic progressive with a steady evolution of views.
/ Both Romney and HRC have compromised, as all national politicians do. Only HRC has a clear, established political philosophy.
/ Both Romney and HRC have run for president twice and lost their first nomination fight.
/ Romney decisively lost his second presidential campaign to Pres. Obama by 5 million votes in a race virtually free of tampering.
/ HRC won the popular vote by 2.9 million votes despite Russian collusion, Comey’s interference, and a blatantly sexist media.
/ Despite criticism of Trump, Romney could barely bring himself to admit HRC was “wrong [on every issue] within the NORMAL parameters”.
/ Romney took the unprecedented step by a former nominee in attacking Trump during the primaries. This is to his credit.
/ However, Romney went virtually toothless in the general election, barely lifting a finger to discourage supporters of Trump. Silence.
/ Romney didn’t even support third-party candidate Evan McMullin in Utah, weakly selling his donor list already open to other candidates.
/ As recently as February, Romney stated Trump was “off to a very strong start”. HRC has consistently called out Trump’s bullshit.
/ So, spend the next few days observing the sheer lack of op-eds from male journalists, pundits, etc. re: Romney’s interest in the Senate.
/ And compare that lack of outrage over Romney’s political ambition with the consistent effort to shame Hillary Clinton for… talking.
/ And in comparing the media response to these two figures, tell me with a straight face sexism isn’t the dominant factor. /thread
