For secondary educators & students, this time of year is extremely stressful. From final evaluations, reporting, duties/responsibilities, environment, etc. Has me wondering about strategies/proscesses/ideas to overcome some of these... #onted #peel21st
1. Really need to consider ending 1st semester prior to winter break. All final evaluations wrapped up by then to give a true 'break'. Means starting year earlier, but I'm sure many would gladly trade for that
2. Shifting school start times during this period to a later start... students & teachers are up late completing lots of work, later start would allow for greater sleep which connects to less stress & greater success.
3. Breaking up final evaluations into smaller components/chunks to make it more manageable. One large final evaluation makes it more challenging for all involved - from evaluating it, to actually completing the work.
4. Report cards can be distributed a couple weeks into 2nd semester. Do they really need to go out when they do? Would give a bit more time to write meaningful comments & effective assessment.
5. Setting up 'mindfulness', time management support, etc. Many students are unsuccessful simply because they are unable to manage some of these other aspects.
