IMPORTANT QUESTION: Is the possibility of Russia tampering with the midterm elections freaking you out?

It should be freaking you out.

It’s a real possibility.

Read on.

(Thread)
I feel the need to point out (again) that our voting system is vulnerable to attack.  Citizens of 13 states will be voting in the midterms on insecure, obsolete, hackable, paperless voting machines that cannot be recounted.
Here’s an excellent 5 minute video called, "I Hacked an Election.  So Can the Russians.” It shows how you can REMOTELY rig a paperless Diebold voting machine.  These are the same machines that will be used by all Georgian voters in the 2018 midterms.
What makes this frustrating is that we know how to make our voting system resilient against all attacks. We need a) paper ballots everywhere, b) secure chain of custody of those ballots c) Risk Limiting Audits (RLAs)
There is a bipartisan bill called the Secure Elections Act that has been introduced in the Senate that would address the insecurity of our elections. thehill.com/policy/cyberse…
LISTEN TO ME...there is nothing that can stop Russia from hacking our elections again. Russia is an existential threat that we ignore at our peril.

I know we didn’t get close to all we wanted or needed in this deal, and we’ll keep fighting for ALL of it, but there are some truly transformational and important parts that we should celebrate. A thread:
AFFORDABLE CARE: The most transformative investment in children and caregiving in generations, delivering:
•Two years of free preschool for more than six million children. The last time America added years of free schooling was more than 100 years ago.
•Affordable child care so that no middle-income families pay more than 7% of their income on child care.
•Affordable, high-quality care for older Americans and people with disabilities in their homes, while supporting the workers who provide this care.

This you @quinnemanuel? How do your clients feel about your decision to hire an architect of Trump’s barbarous family separation program?
The people behind this policy of cruelty weren't elected. They're not famous, but they should be. John Bash. Gene Hamilton. Ed O'Callaghan. They are the human faces of this cruelty. images.app.goo.gl/7fzD9KHw64v28E…
Bash dutifully enforced Trump’s policy, ripping infants and toddlers from their parents before tucking his own kid in at night.  oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/…

I’m going to show you some before/after pictures of what your lungs and heart look like from covid thanks to the innovative work being done by @drwilliamli and @Survivor_Corps.

I think it will help you, especially the deniers, to have a visual of the actual damage covid does.
The left is a picture of a normal, healthy, heart. The right is picture is what happens to the blood vessels from #COVIDー19. In simple terms, the splintering of the blood vessels in the right picture is what makes oxygenation so difficult. Ok...read on for pictures of lungs.
The photo on the left are healthy lungs. You can see all the colorful blood vessels. The center pic is actually *my* lungs. As a long hauler, I have less blood vessels than pre-covid. We don’t know if they will come back. The right are lungs of someone who passed away from covid.

1/ Last night, a reporter broke some information slightly incorrectly: they said military spending was in the COVID bill instead of the consolidated spending bill that contained it. As a result, I conveyed that part incorrectly. I’m sorry for that. But the larger points stand:
2/ The consolidated spending bill was all part of the same negotiations as the COVID relief bill. And the “relief” in that bill is entirely inadequate. $600 per person in a check. $25B in emergency rent relief. $300/week extended unemployment benefits. It’s nowhere near enough.
3/ Some Democrats are making a big deal about a 15% expansion of SNAP benefits. Current beneficiaries of SNAP receive on average $1.39 per meal. The expansion gets them to $1.59 per meal. And they are calling that a win?! C’mon.
