THREAD: Attorneys say they can't believe AG Tish James signed off on a proposed settlement for Harvey Weinstein victims, which included terms she personally assured them would never happen.
The proposed settlement was covered by insurers. Harvey and Bob Weinstein didn't pay anything -- they actually received millions for legal costs. Other money would have gone to former Weinstein Co. board member James Dolan and actors like Bradley Cooper and Meryl Streep.
“I felt betrayed by the Attorney General’s acceptance of the settlement, which was so unfair for the victims and did not hold Weinstein responsible for his crimes on any level,” said Kaja Sokola, who sued Weinstein for allegedly assaulting her when she was 16.
We just got our first look at Ghislaine Maxwell over a video feed from MDC Brooklyn. She's sporting a brown jail uniform and appeared (unsurprisingly) anxious ahead of a bail hearing set to start at 1 p.m.
Maxwell hearing highlighting just how disruptive COVID has been to the courts. Sound isn't great. Maxwell's confirmation she can hear the proceeding is choppy, and Judge Nathan had to call the case herself because her deputy seems to have fallen off the call.
Judge Nathan notes the case has "garnered significant public interest." A call-in line for the public reached capacity with 500 listeners. They've expanded capacity to 1,000 listeners.
Awaiting a verdict in the NYPD bribery trial of Jeremy Reichberg and ex Deputy Inspector Jimmy Grant.
Surprise split verdict. Reichberg found guilty of 5 out of 6 counts. Grant found NOT GUILTY on all counts.
One juror said she was “absolutely” stunned the government brought charges against Grant. “It looked like they were rushing,” she said of the case against the Deputy Inspector.

More trouble on the mayor's security detail. A black detective has sued for discrimination, charging that he was given demeaning duties like standing guard outside Gracie in freezing weather. nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-me…
Meanwhile the second-in-command of the unit has been transferred out amid an Internal Affairs probe. We reported he was involved in a drunken fight at Gracie. By @NYDN_GRaymannydailynews.com/new-york/ny-me…
The city is arguing that some of the examples of discrimination within de Blasio's Executive Protection Unit are just petty workplace disputes. Calling a Russian cop "too intimidating" isn't discriminatory, they say. nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-me…
Michael Cohen's real estate portfolio has gotten a good deal of scrutiny. But his impact on rent stabilized tenants has been mostly overlooked. Here's what happened at three of his buildings. @housingrightsNYnydailynews.com/new-york/ny-me…
At 172 Rivington in the LES nine construction permits were filed between 2011 and 2014 claiming no rent stabilized tenants lived there. In reality, 20 lived there. The number declined to 11 by the time Cohen sold for a $7.9 million profit
At 235 E. 27th St. four construction applications between 2012 and 2014 declared no rent-stabilized tenants were in the building. There were eight. By the time Cohen sold for a $3.5 million profit three rent stabilized tenants had left.
