1. Lots of new this week, but voting might be the only thing that can save our democracy! And there’s a new attack on the right to vote thinkprogress.org/ada-voter-supp…
2. A rural, majority-black county in Georgia said last week that it will be closing 7 of its 9 polling places before the November election. This is obviously highly problematic. But let’s take a look at how they are justifying the closures… thinkprogress.org/ada-voter-supp…
3. An election consultant in Randolph County, GA is claiming the polls are not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. He is using the ADA (one civil rights law) as a pretext to violate the VRA (another civil rights law) thinkprogress.org/ada-voter-supp…
4. The consultant is not the first to come up with this deceptive tactic. Under Trump, the Justice Department has ramped up its ADA-enforcement actions against counties it claims have non-compliant polling locations thinkprogress.org/ada-voter-supp…
5. And guess what? Most of the jurisdictions the DOJ is targeting have significant minority populations thinkprogress.org/ada-voter-supp…
6. It’s a tactic that attorneys have seen used in counties with large Native American populations in the West. And now it’s being used in a majority-black county in the South thinkprogress.org/ada-voter-supp…
7. So to summarize, the people tasked with strengthening our elections are using federal disability law as a pretext to make it more difficult for non-white voters to cast ballots thinkprogress.org/ada-voter-supp…
8. There’s widespread awareness about many voter suppression tactics, like voter ID laws and cuts to voting hours. This new tactic has been flying under-the-radar, and it could have significant effects thinkprogress.org/ada-voter-supp…

The arena with vote counting in Detroit cannot hold all the poll challengers there to watch, and the Trump campaign is suing to halt the counting until it is given “meaningful access to numerous counting locations to observe” clickondetroit.com/decision-2020/…

Chicago is tracking kids pre-trial with GPS ankle monitors that can call and record them without consent. My latest at @theappeal: theappeal.org/chicago-electr…
@theappeal I talked to a 15-year-old wearing one of the devices.

"Why can’t I just call y’all?” he asked. "Why can’t it be simple? It’s kind of like being treated like a slave or something like that. They don’t give us no room to think.” theappeal.org/chicago-electr…
@theappeal When I approached Chicago with questions about the privacy of the recordings (which can be used in criminal investigations), they suspended the recording function “in an abundance of caution.” theappeal.org/chicago-electr…

.@staceyabrams campaign holding a press call now. “We know our opponent has had the secretary of state’s office declare he is the winner. We are here to say we don’t accept that.”
Only 23,800 votes would push the race into recount territory. There are 22,000 outstanding provisional ballots and 3,000 outstanding mail ballots, campaign says
“There has been no data offered... no detail whatsoever” about the outstanding ballots, Abrams campaign says. Campaign manager says majority of roughly 25,000 outstanding ballots are in Democratic strongholds
