1/ Reality Winner receives her sentence today for an act of conscience she undertook on behalf of our public good. The fact that this decorated veteran's life appears 2 be beneath the interest of so many remains a puzzler 2 me, but I have a theory or 2 shadowproof.com/2018/08/21/rea…
2/ I think her one wild & precious life is lost in the constellation of competing interests/platforms/brands that controls the narrative(s) of the American barnyard. Imprisoned and denied the right to tell her story or hug her mother for over a year, she's been disappeared.
3/ Our risk aversion equals her crushed spirit. I wonder if her involvement in our gov't's drone program renders her a human being indefinitely consigned to dwell outside the sphere of what we're willing to know about ourselves. Not unlike soldier suicides. #PolicyIsLiturgy
4/ Maybe famous people avoid conflict for a living, mistake class for community, & avoid signalling awareness of any life that threatens their perceived standing. @Rosie & @johncusack & @jaketapper are the only exceptions I've spied over the last year.
5/ Anyway, I hope something turns around today. I hope she appears on @StephenAtHome or @kristatippett's show. I pray for her and her family (@bjwinnerdavis). & I hope our electorate wakes up to her witness.
6/ I encourage everyone who speaks of Russia or Putin or troops or elections or values or politics etc to pay her heed & amplify her plight. Here's the lonely but completely awesome coverage her existence received via the attentiveness of @KerryHowleynymag.com/daily/intellig…
8/ "Winner spoke about her now-deceased father, who she said 'expected us to engage in intellectual discourse as soon as we were out of diapers...'” @trevortimmtheintercept.com/2018/08/23/rea…
11/ "They’re not going to let me go back to my life. Now it’s just been a battle of trying to keep the smallest portion of who I am.” rollingstone.com/politics/polit…@tessastuart
Hi. I have a PhD in Religion from @VanderbiltU. Justice Amy Coney Barrett is wrong. All schools DO NOT have to come from "some belief system." "Belief system" is a catastrophically unhelpful phrase for characterizing traditions that inform behavior. 1/2 c-span.org/video/?c499041…
Religion names a thing. How we name a thing matters. We, the people of the United States, have a constitutional right to not fund any form of religious indoctrination or what ACB might refer to as "building the kingdom of God." 2/2
Clarification: We have a responsibility (if we’re to abide by the Constitution) to not compel each other to fund religious indoctrination. After taxes, we’re each free to fund as much religious indoctrination as we want.
Within the communal (but also extremely lucrative) vehicle/brand called @switchfoot, Jon turns data into song. This one about overcoming white supremacist terror was inspired by @johnmperkins. 2/
This toe-tapping number, from their new album #interrobang, is especially fun if you know, as I do, that Jon reads Claudia Rankine, Kierkegaard, & Buber. He's a pop-song-writing philosopher. 3/
121/ There’s a power differential here since @ChrisCuomo speaks from within a larger robot than this anxious man has access to, but this is still, I think, a kind of attempted exorcism. Slow the tape & see.
122/ Thank you, @RavenFoundation, for giving me a platform on which to share a favorite example of #RobotSoftExorcism. I invite everyone to join me in contemplating & applying Reverend James Lawson’s adage to our myriad, shifting contexts.
Propaganda ends where dialogue begins. I may have to to start a thread collecting threads responding justly to @timkellernyc's thread. In fact, I will. This is the thread.
