Pizza party for one: a short story.
There's a young couple beside me who do not know there is basil on their pizza. It is clearly basil.
Initially, he suggested that maybe it was asparagus leaves, as if that's a thing one has ever put on a pizza. I think they may have settled on that explanation. Or "surrantro."
"I don't have an excuse, you're wearing a dress." That's what he said. He's wearing a band shirt.
On the other side of me is a group of young gals. I guess college is about to begin anew. It's someone's birthday.
A later arrival has clearly went on a trip abroad. There's some kind of tension. They don't want to hear about it and they don't care that she's changed. It's not her birthday.
They aren't far removed from secondary. One told a story about an old friend who has went "hillbilly." Cut off jean shorts, second-hand Tom's on his feet, sleeveless tees. She was horrified.
Probably the old friend was just down the street and this whole college business explains why all these young adults are just hanging out on the street smoking cigarettes on a stoop in front of the club at 6pm. They're not allowed in later.
