I’m in southern North Carolina, just south of Fayetteville, where I’ll be for the foreseeable future. Service permitting, I’ll be sharing updates about #HurricaneFlorerence, conditions on be ground, and folks in need of help. Please let me know if you hear or know of anything too
One thing that I’ve already seen in North Carolina is the disparity between those who have the money to prepare for the storm and those who do not. One woman said she knocked on over 200 doors yesterday asking people to please evacuate. The majority said they couldn’t afford to
another thing I’ve seen is that a lot of people are resigned to the fact that there is going to be debilitating amounts of flooding. i can’t tell you the number of times people have pointed to building and homes and said “that’s going to be mostly under water”
that being said, hurricane Matthew humbled a lot of people here. at a high school in Lumberton that is offering shelter there are a bunch of people waiting already even though it doesn’t open for another hour
Wind is starting to howl in Lumberton, North Carolina where it’s been raining for most of the day. Electricity is out, leaves and branches are strewn across the ground and grass, and some things are already knocked over #HurricaneFlorerence
Update: It’s now raging here in Lumberton, North Carolina. A large branch fell, plopping onto a car, several trees are swaying, a couple others are beginning to lean. And this is expected to last through Sunday. Audio on

Some news: For the past 2 years, we've been working on a really ambitious investigation into Louisville's Police Department. The investigation, which is divided into two separate hours—one about sexual assault, another about search warrants—is finally airing tonight and tomorrow
The first part focuses on a pattern of sexual misconduct by officers, and repeated failure of LMPD to take allegations seriously. By not thoroughly investigating complaints, LMPD has allowed problem officers to continue acting unchecked, and in some cases, victimize more women
The investigation is based on hundreds of internal documents, recordings going back more than a decade, and interviews with multiple accusers, as well as current and former members of LMPD—including, even, a whistleblower interview with a current LMPD Sex Crimes Detective

Ever since law enforcement killed David McAtee, the beloved owner of a popular Louisville BBQ joint, police have made it seem like it was just an honest mistake. But there's more to the story. Much more.

New: LMPD Sergeant Jonathan Mattingly filed counter claims against Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker for battery, assault, and intentional emotional distress. He and his lawyer seem to be swinging for the fences here. They want punishment for Walker and money for damages
Here's the battery claim. It says Walker shot Mattingly "willingly or maliciously," and that Mattingly is entitled to compensatory damages and punitive damages
Here's the assault claim

Breaking: A judge has ruled in favor of the anonymous Breonna Taylor grand juror, meaning the juror CAN speak publicly about the grand jury proceedings

“This Court finds that the traditional justification for secrecy in this matter are no longer relevant"
" IT IS HEREBY ORDERED Anonymous Grand Juror #1's motion to release grand jury proceedings is GRANTED...Any participant in those proceedings, including grand jurors, may disclose such information, subject to the trial court's order regarding"
Reminder: The grand juror filed the motion because, as their representation explained, they felt like Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron was using them as a shield. And a second juror has since come forward, expressing a similar desire to be able to speak publicly

Our documentary on Breonna Taylor’s case is now up online. We recreated the night Breonna Taylor's was killed using previously unreleased body camera footage, video of officer interviews, internal documents and much more
The doc gives a much more complete sense of what happened the night she was killed, including the immediate chaos, the long list of serious policy violations, the complete mess of a crime scene, and the inconsistencies and contradictions in testimonies by the officers involved
It also compares what Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron told the public to what the evidence actually shows, and how that evidence was (or in some cases wasn't) presented to the grand jury

We obtained hundreds of hours of body cams/officer interviews, as well as thousands of documents related to Breonna Taylor’s death. And they tell a more complicated story than the public heard

A lot of hard work went into our, documentary which airs tonight. I hope you’ll watch
The Special will show in more detail than has previously been made public what happened on the night Breonna Taylor died, and compare it to what the grand jury heard. It airs at 11pm EST on VICE, and will be available online afterwards. I’ll share the link as soon as it’s live
This was a team effort going all the way back to May. The doc is as much my colleagues’ as it is mine. Shout out to my producers and co-reporters @NicoleBozorgmir @bellecushing @jceballosv & @AniUcar, our editors Jeb Banegas and Andrew Patterson, and our Senior Producer @musefi
