Dear @tumisole

Here’s my #CountryDutyReport for the last three days. This is a story about someone who seemed to have escaped a possible human trafficking trap. Indeed there are people out there preying on the desperation of the unemployed youth, especially women.

THREAD:
1.I get a call from my better half who tells me of how excited she is because her friend received an interview call up to Jo’burg in a day.

Naturally, I ask what the post is and how long it took 4 her to get the feedback.Guess what, her email application was responded in 2 hrs
2.The body of the email includes three things that raised the alarm 🚨 for me (of course as soon as I felt something wasn’t on, I asked her to forward me the email). First, the signature contained the FIRST NAME ONLY (a name identical with the yahoo address used to apply)
3.Second, the formatting of the email content was inconsistent such that you could tell that the respondent copied the contents from at least three separate sources. The directions given are in a different format, so are the salutations and contact details
4.Third, one that probably made everything else seem suspicious, the email responded said “Please bring your latest cv to the interview.” For heaven’ sake, what professional change would’ve occurred such that it warranted one to ‘update’ her cv in leas than 24 hrs?
Then I decide to Google the company to check whether my suspicions ar well founded or I’m just a paranoia. I establish that the company’s name does exist and has website. But two things don’t add up.First, the genuine company is based in USA 🇺🇸 and doesn’t have a branch in 🇿🇦
6. Further, why would a company that exist and has a website opt to use a yahoo email address to conduct official business while they have an email account that has a domain registered in its name? Well I thought maybe their servers are down, hence they used a non-official one.
7. So I check their Twitter activity and establish that the handle was opened in 2010 but have 50 tweets only; with their last activity being late 2016. Again, I reason with myself that maybe they don’t have a ‘Social Media Manager’ hence the less online activity. But something...
8. I recall that in the email they said “we have been looking for someone but couldn’t find one’ as a way to qualify the ‘rushed’ interview call up. One would expect that this will be a “scarce skills” field. No, they are looking for a receptionist and events coordinator 👀!
9. Lastly, I checked the CPIC and the company doesn’t exist. Then we request her brother who is based in Jozi to also call and ask for an interview and he is told that it’s wrong number; a number given on the advert! So yeah, you got that one right, they’re looking for females!
10. The company goes by the name of Joyous Events. Their adverts are found on Indeed. If this company is just starting out, and therefore are yet to establish themselves, if you find them, please refer me to them and I’ll remove this THREAD. In the meantime, stay alert 🚨
