Until congress, the media, & the public understand NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) we'll never be able to predict or deal with Trump.
Some of the best info on narcissism doesn't come doctors, but from the children of narcissists.
I think you'll be surprised...
Thread
1."Having a narcissistic mother is like living under the supervision of a 6 yr-old. Narcissists are always pretending...you'll be expected to act like a doll...an object...something that can be broken but not hurt...forgotten when something more interesting comes along."
J.Ashmun
3. Narcissists lack empathy which colors every aspect of their lives and their ability to react, reason, feel, and think rationally. This also causes them to be unable to fully grasp what they read or hear, because they'll miss context and affect.
4. They only pay attention to what affects them personally. they can't guess what others feel so can't take that into consideration or accurately predict reactions or consequences of their actions. Only their own feelings in the moment matter.
5. They have atypical memory associations, which can cause their thinking to be illogical. They don't talk about (or know?) their inner life, dreams, or even memories. Their conversation go off on tangents and irrelevancies or they'll simply repeat words or things others say.
6. They have a strange sense of time and are not always aware that time changes things, they may not notice things that changed many prior. They think they look significantly younger than they do and have a selective memory. Their ideas are fixed in the past often from childhood
7 They borrow behavior, opinions & tastes randomly from others, mostly whomever they view as an authority at that moment, ("Authority figures" are some of the few people they will listen to and usually fear.) they have no internal sense of morals.
8. They have a strange relationship with God, thinking that they are so special that God allows them to to ignore the rules that others have to follow, They may even see themselves as a saint or think events like nuclear war would not affect them or their family.
9. Narcissists lie and contradict themselves constantly. They have no relationship with the truth and will lie about anything and everything even if it's trivial. They will say that events (or history) happened differently, which they may truly believe, in that moment
10. Narcissists are motivated by power and adoration and only restrained by fear of punishment or loss of reputation (although their concept of their reputation may be out of touch with reality.) They are envious and competitive, contemptuous of others, and purposefully cruel.
11. They are very critical while being highly sensitive to criticism themselves, want revenge on any who have criticised them, and will hold a grudge and exact revenge for years, but expect others to "get over it" when they do (or can't understand others have separate feelings)
12. They have no sense of the true value of things (including work) and believe others can't see it either so believe superficial things are the same as real things. They live for the appearance, and while may be lavish for their image are usually extremely stingy.
13. They have no real sense of humor or irony, although they may repeat jokes they have heard or mock others to make others laugh because they like the attention. They also seem to have no sense of fun or pleasure beyond fulfilling bodily needs or getting adoration.
14. They are totally, inflexibly, authoritarian. Which means they will suck up to those above them they see as authority figures and act like a tyrant to any they view as beneath them. They can be charming to strangers and flatter shamelessly if they want something
15.They have a negative outlook on life, are irrationally impulsive, expect others to do anything they see as beneath them, and expect undivided attention and catering to every whim forever with zero reciprocity
16. They are naive and so out of touch and inattentive that they are very susceptible to exploitation.
17. They hate to live alone.
There is no cure.
They don't grow out of it, it get worse with age.
There are no medications for it.
The only therapies require that the narcissist admit their problem and willingly address it, which is anathema to a narcissist... #25thAdmendmentNow
PS. Everything included here came from the viewpoint of children of narcissists (written prior to Trump) not Dr.s because these inside observations add interesting nuance and points to consider to the clinical discussion that we are more familiar with: 👇
Thank you.

@sumlenny In the late 90's I worked with 200 Russian fishermen from Vladivostok. They were shocked by free tea/soup in our breakroom, soft toilet paper, buffet style food and had never seen a banana before. From their reactions you would think an American fishing trawler was a cruise ship.
@sumlenny The boat I was working on F/T Saga Sea was Norwegian owned but fishing the Berring Sea out of Seattle and decided to take a Russian invite to fish the Sea of Okhosk in our off season (huge mistake) we also had to take on a Russian crew. However, once we crossed into international
@sumlenny waters our ship lost it's right to fish here so we got stuck in Okhosk with a Russian crew.
They stole everything they could get their hands on and hid it in bunks (fruit, tea, UHT milk, toilet paper) and thought buffet style meals meant the first guy in line got 14 steaks...
Talked to my mom today. She lives in Manaus Brazil a city of 2 mil. deep in the Amazon. Living quarters are cramped and families large. Covid-19 is ripping through. Hospitals are already overwhelmed and have waiting lists. Bodies must be buried within 24hrs so they have had...1/3
To dig a mass grave outside of town to put the coffins in. Each family only gets 10 min at the gravesite to say goodbye until the next "funeral" Testing is scarce so there are only 185 confirmed Covid deaths but the average daily death toll in town has jumped from 30 to 100+.
Although the Amazon is not considered a hard hit area in Brazil, most people can neither miss days of work nor social distance. They have no safety net. Few people own masks. This virus is hitting them so hard. (There are private hospitals for the wealthy.)npr.org/sections/coron…
Went to a training on rights when it comes to ICE detentions. One interesting piece of info was that ICE can print a warrant on the fly to remove someone, but even though they may try to use it as a search warrant it is only valid in public places, not homes or cars.
Real one 👇
Here's the ICE warrant 👇
Realise ICE often wears plain clothes with unmarked cars & approaches in public. As a bystander you can not legally physically obstruct them but you can film them (dont release identifying info on the immigrant to social media) The film can be used in court if ICE breaks the law.
Jet streams are a fascinating piece of the climate science puzzle that most people have never considered. Learning about this one simple thing for 5 min explains SO MUCH.
When everyone knows this we will all accomplish more.
THREAD
1. First point:
"Weather" (clouds, storms, rain ect.) is pushed around by wind.
There are some major, reliable, high altitude winds like the jet steams that push weather around the Earth in predictable patterns.
2. Here's how jet streams work:
The sun warms the air around the equator all year. The warm air then moves up and towards the poles. The air coming off the poles towards the equator is freezing cold. Where the warm air and cold air collide the jet stream is formed.
The crisis we are experiencing today was probably inevitable. This has been in the works since the founding of this nation.
It has to do with power, who gets it. and why.
Considering how we got here can show us how to get out.

1. Many of us see that Trump as a tyrant and unfit for office in every way, yet his supporters honestly see him as a true leader. They forgive his abuses yet will spend billions to stop a brown person from doing the same.
Why? The unhealthy hierarchy.
2. As a social species hierarchy is part of life and affects all of us.
However, while hierarchy itself isn't bad (someone has to teach the dog to pee outside) who gets the power and how they treat others once they have it determines if it's a healthy or unhealthy system.
People feel threatened when identity is challenged. Eg:If white identity is self defined as being in charge of other races & it's challenged by a black leader, they must A: reevaluate or B: double down. The same is true when masculine identity is tied to being "the boss" of women
The process of revaluation includes becoming aware of and taking responsibility for a mistake then evaluating the info & choosing a new definition of race or masculinity. Doubling down includes refusal to look at / take responsibility in light of new info and so includes blame
This was brought to my attention reading about deradicalization of terrorists & white supremacists. An expert explained that they tie their identity as male to fighting or contoling others & that showing them other ways to define masculinity, like protection, helped them change.
