Inside The Diamond Property Merchants Scam cnyakundi.com/inside-the-dia… #DPMScam
In early 2017 my wife and I were drawn to an advert on TV being done by one @ItsMainaKageni. It was about land being sold by DPM in Kajiado dubbed Bethany phase IV. The land was supposedly for agricultural use. You buy an 1/8 for 500K and invest in a greenhouse for 300K.
The ad done by @ItsMainaKageni further promised 200K within 6 months meaning in a year one would get 400K. Quickly sisi na calculator tukafanya maths tukaona in 2 years we shall break even then start enjoying fruits of our investment.
We did a quick background check and found DPM had won company of the year in Top100 midsized company awards sponsored by @NationMediaGrp and @KPMG. They had undertaken the project before hence why we were now at phase 4. Stupid us, we assumed this must be a legit company.
We sent a text to the short code provided and soon got a response. Fast forward we went for a tour of the site being taken to phase 3 where were shown successful greenhouses. The then marketing manager Edwin Khiranga can sell you a stone coz he really convinced us on site.
My mother in law had recently retired and was looking for an investment for some of her retirement money. Wifey and I sold her the idea and we jointly invested 1.6M in the project.
This was in February 2017. The greenhouse project was to commence in July that year. The month came and went, but there was no word from DPM. So we contacted our agent, that is when the stories begun.
First it was, 'We are waiting for 300 investors to invest in the greenhouse since we plant in batches of 300'. Then silence...In November we received a message that the election period had affected plans but planting would begin in that month. It kind of made sense so we relaxed.
Silence again...Around April 2018, we get concerned by the silence and investors request for an update. That is when a meeting is called and DPM now change tune and inform investors that the local community had become hostile and stopped the project destroying the few equipment
I forgot to mention that sometime in 2017 before the greenhouse project commenced a meeting had been called and investors told that DPM had fallen out with the greenhouse company. This meant they had to source for a new supplier.
With the new supplier the terms changed from 200K in 6 months to 180K in 8 months. That would have been the first red flag but again stupid us were convinced by DPM it was worth it.
Anyway back to the story...now we were dealing with a supposedly hostile community, Kajiado County govt then issued a directive to stop all sub division of land in the area.
We then really became worried. All along DPM had convinced us that they had all relevant authorization from the County authorities, they had given us ownership certificates in the interim as we await title deeds.
If you think, things can't get any worse then think again. So now as worried investors we start doing our due diligence. We realize Phase 3 investors have actually taken DPM to court for non fulfillment of contract.
A colleague who invested in phase 3 informed me that to date she had not received her title deed. We got worried and after a land search was done, shock of all shocks, the title deed was in the name of one Hamud Mohamed. These thieves sold us land they did not even own.
It is then that stuff started coming out, first DPM had defaulted in paying for the land, so Mr. Hamud wanted his land back and he was willing to refund whatever they had paid. DPM was hesitant because they did not have the money to refund investors should the sale be revoked.
Once DPM realised that investors knew what was happening communication was sent to inform investors that Hamud would keep a part of the land which was unpaid for and DPM keep the rest. Investors were informed that their plots were all in the paid for part.
Again silence...no one knows which part is still with Hamud and which is DPM. A search done later revealed that the land is now in another individual's name.
In summary, 2 years after investing with DPM, there is nothing to show for it. No title deed, no greenhouse no ROI.
Even as I pursue my own way of getting justice, it is important that I warn other Kenyans. First, never fall for hype. Second, don't trust these awards, they also don't due their research well, Third, don't believe everything said by a media personality. Lastly do your homework.
