🧵re Dr. Rick Bright & Regeneron: 👇
The contract with Regeneron, to urgently develop this treatment for COVID-19 was the very first contract @RickABright put in place as BARDA director to respond to the virus. Negotiations started in Jan & contract finalized on Feb 4, 2020. 1/5
Before anyone in HHS or the White House would listen to Dr. Rick Bright about the urgent need to respond to this virus, Dr. Bright risked his job and started the work. hhs.gov/about/news/202… 2/5
This represents only part of the early action Dr. Bright took at risk in January, while he was being kicked out of HHS meetings for pushing for funding and support. kmblegal.com/sites/default/… 3/5
Seriously!?? Who at @dsw_us thought it would be a good idea to air a commercial where the employees pull down their masks to talk to each other? Completely irresponsible.
Such an utterly avoidable travesty that it took THIS long for science to prevail. How much harm was inflicted upon Americans by this Administration as a result of politics being placed ahead of science? This is not a case of “better late than never.”
Countless respected scientists told this Administration, from day 1, that it should never happen, period.
"Rick Bright, the former BARDA director who Disbrow replaced, has accused health officials of removing him from his role overseeing millions of dollars to develop treatments and vaccines because he raised health concerns about hydroxychloroquine and resisted its widespread use."
Dr. Right Bright on a conference call with reporters:
"The past few years have been beyond challenging.... I was pressured to let politics and cronyism drive decisions, over opinions of the best scientists in government."
"We are in an extremely difficult global crisis. And the worst might still be ahead of us. There are many scientific questions to be answered. Americans need to have all the facts; they need to know the truth about this pandemic."
"We cannot afford to silence and dismiss scientists in our country and to strain or sever our ties from scientists around the world. There has never been a time in our life where their voice has been needed more."
If you have not yet watched #Unbelievable on @netflix, you should. NOW. It is riveting and harrowing- its ESSENTIAL tv.
We say #Ibelievesurvivors for a reason. #Unbelievable convincingly explains why, in agonizing detail. 1/4
@netflix As the Atlantic put it: "It’s impossible to watch Unbelievable and not think about recent cases in which women speaking out about their own sexual assaults have been failed by systems that were supposed to offer them the bare minimum of due diligence." 2/4 theatlantic.com/entertainment/…
@netflix I work with many survivors. Some choose to share their stories publicly and others wish to remain quiet. Regardless they should be believed. #Unbelievable has done something incredible: shown us what can happen when women are believed and what happens when they aren’t. 3/4
