Let's remember another lurid and grotesque hoax meant to smear white men, in this case southern fratboys, the UVa rape hoax. The media also promoted obvious bullshit, but, like the #JussieSmollettHoax there seem to have been ties to the Obama admin in its inception

Given the close connections that almost always appear between prominent and nationally-promoted hoaxes/disinfo like the UVa Rolling Stone case and the #JussieSmollettHoax, including to pass legislation, the question must be asked to what extent they are coordinated from top-down
It doesn't stop here of course: the biggest hoaxes and agitation disinfo were promoted by Obama himself, including his promotion of the Ferguson riots and of BLM, which increased the national rate for violent crimes...
The CIA model for America in the 2010's it seems: promote active assets like Obama, McMullin, Schiff or @IgnatiusPost to national office/prominence, from where they can agitate American society with hoaxes and disinfo/false flags
As a peasant from the outside, all I can do is guess, but I guess that Trump's dismissal of @GenFlynn was a huge early mistake that turned off a potentially loyal portion of deep state, or one bent on stopping these CIA abuses of America, as Steve Pieczenik has hinted...who knows
