A couple years ago, I made the ill-fated decision of briefly dating a startup founder. He just popped up in my social media feed, and I couldn't come up with a better parody of a tech bro if I tried.
Let's laugh at my misfortune; here's a brief thread with the bingo card.
✔️ Sued for wage theft
This man is currently battling a lawsuit for repeatedly missing payroll while encouraging his employees to work "on a volunteer basis" in his first venture as a CEO. *Despite this*, he was hired to be a founder in residence at a new VC firm.
✔️ For over a year, his profile picture was him shaking hands with Hillary Clinton.
✔️ Biden and Beto are his top picks for 2020. No, I'm not kidding.
✔️ Bragged (??) on the first date about using 50 GB of cellular data a month
✔ Still couldn't text me back
How does one even use that much cellular data? I'm so confused?
✔️ He met the first celebrity investor in his previous company when they dropped acid together at a party in LA. He was 19 at the time.
✔️ He talked incessantly about being a "male ally" to women in tech. I later found out that he had fired the only woman on his executive team when she spoke out against sexual harassment.
✔️ The new startup he went on to found is literally disaster capitalism.
I don't know how much detail I can go into without revealing this man's identity, but his new company is literally trying to profit off of natural disasters.
✔️ He has over 10K Twitter followers, but he paid for half of them.
✔️ He made friends with one of the anchors on Fox News, and regularly appears on Fox Business as their token "young tech expert".
✔️ He once made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, because his then girlfriend's mom was friends with the editor.
(okay I've given up on anonymity lol)
✔️ He adhered strictly to the keto diet, for absolutely no medical reason.
✔️ Huge Elon Musk fanboy
On the first date I asked if he was religious, and he took out his laptop and made me watch a video about "Elon Musk's simulation theory".
✔️ He strongly believed that anti-depressants "caused depression" and felt comfortable telling me this despite the fact that I'm clinically depressed?
✔️ He non-ironically referred to "beast mode" as his catch phrase
✔️ He spent a longer time styling his hair than I did
Have you seen my hair? This is honestly impressive.
✔️ His entire Facebook profile is public
I think that's all I have for now. We dated for about a month, and when we finally broke up it was, of course, because I found out that he was a compulsive liar.
there's a solid chance someone will figure out who i'm talking about here. please don't tag him in this thread, but if you do figure it out feel free to DM me lol
my work here is done

I had a really disappointing experience with the owner of Trouble Coffee exposing a vitriolic anti-homeless attitude this morning that I think it's important for me to share.
Bear with me for a moment — this will be a thread. 👇
Since moving to the Outer Sunset, Trouble Coffee has become my favorite coffee shop in the city.
They have anti-fascist arrows on their window and a sign that says "fuck off Nazi scum". While I realize this rings hollow from a for profit business, it always has made me smile.
We don't have many homeless neighbors living on the street in my neighborhood.
But there's one man who lives in the area who's occasionally stopped me and asked me to help him get food. He's always very friendly (not that this makes him any more deserving of basic human needs!)
The “why I left San Francisco” pieces are predominantly written by wealthy people who blame policies that benefit people of color for their negative experiences in SF.
They’re never written by low income Black and brown people who are struggling.
Have you ever read a “why I left San Francisco” piece from someone who left for the Central Valley after their family, already doubled up in a tiny apartment, was evicted for the second time?
Who experienced increased racial profiling from police as the city became wealthier?
I sure haven’t! But I’ve seen lots of screeds from VCs who claim they’re terrified to walk down the streets of San Francisco since Chesa was elected.
I want to address the "this harms the majority of drivers" statement, and then I also have a strong case for why you shouldn't vote for Prop 22 even if you *don't* like AB 5.
(1/n)
@h_bash The claim that the majority of drivers don't work the 30 hours a week needed to qualify for benefits and would therefore be uninterested in being classified as employees is misleading.
(2/n)
@h_bash The studies that say the majority of drivers don't drive 30 hours a week are calculating those numbers based on every driver who has ever driven a single ride. Many of these studies are also funded by the corporations bankrolling the proposition.
With ADHD I have exactly three types of work days:
✔️ Get absolutely nothing done
✔️ Get 4 hours of work done, at a random time of day
✔️ Get 40 hours of work done in 8 hours
Whenever I tweet about ADHD, I get a lot of "do I have ADHD?" DMs. It's possible! A lot of people do go undiagnosed into adulthood.
I can't diagnosis you. If you're inquiring seriously, please do more research and contact a doctor.
My process for getting diagnosed with ADHD as an adult was as follows.
When I started to get suspicious I might have it, I took a self diagnostic test online, then brought it to my psychiatrist. He referred me to a neuropsychologist for screening, and my diagnosis was confirmed.
Do you want me to live tweet as I learn about our tenants rights?
"Renoviction" is a term for the eviction of all of a building's tenants on the grounds that a large-scale renovation is planned.
They often start with "temporary move outs." Be very skeptical of this! Very few move outs in San Francisco remain temporary.
Tenant-occupied buildings are a full 25% to 50% cheaper to purchase than owner-occupied buildings. In investment terms, they're a "better investment." 😔
