Thread: I hate to RT clickbait, but EDITORIALS like this are a perfect example of why contemporaneous reporting is key in evaluating stories. The articles surrounding the arrest of Ms. Peoples provide a very different context than this piece.
Peoples is presented as the human toll of KAMALA's "crusade", yet contemporaneous reports indicate the arrest was part of OC's GRIP initiative. The program had been active for FIVE yrs (3 yrs before the so-called Kamala bill) and prosecuted 11ppl.
Interestingly enough, the contemporaneous article provides examples of people helped by the OCs GRIP program. 10,000 people (students/parents/law enforcement/school personnel) were involved in the program yet 11 people (0.11%). ocregister.com/2013/04/19/kee…
The huffpo editorial buries the admission that the OC DA in Peoples' case may have had his own political motives. Yet still asserts that culpability rests with Kamala for the independent judgement and jurisdiction DAs exercised and had been empowered to do so since the 70s.
What happened to Peoples is awful. Although her case was dismissed the legal battle was obviously distressing. To place the blame on Kamala though is totally disingenuous.
The editorial also only mentions Kamala didn't "get everything she wanted" in terms or truancy reforms, but fails to mention the reforms that she did get pushed through. Worth the read. oag.ca.gov/news/press-rel…
I've seen many editorials on Kamala and truancy, yet 0 examination and only 1 mention of the Bureau of Children's Justice she created. At a minimum shouldn't this get as much ink as truancy editorials? oag.ca.gov/news/press-rel…
For the record, the "Kamala law" has a name. It is Senate Bill 1317 Truancy. It passed with 64% in CA Senate and 77% in CA Assembly. Gov. Schwarzenegger signed the law. Note from the editorial the volume of charges brought under the old law vs this. leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billVote…

I've heard more vitriol directed @ VP for telling people they can Google testing sites than Ron DeSantis got for letting 1 MILLION covid tests expire during the Omicron surge & refusing to open state sites. Homegirl ⬇️ said nothing about that but called VP wicked. A few things 🧵
The admin has already conceded more needed to be done on testing AND they have done exactly that. Also even before Omicron, they already invested $1 billion in at-home testing capacity. States also have a responsibility for scaling up testing.
Testing wait times are longer not because VP wickedly refuses to wave her magic pinky, it's because we are dealing with astronomical surge of cases. The daily avg is 800K new cases with a positivity rate>30%. Labs don't have the capacity to turn results around quicker (see ⬇️)
I see there is a sudden renewed interest in anti-lynching legislation as opposed to mostly crickets last year when Rand Klan Paul filibustered it. Here's a quick thread on where it stands for people who are afraid Juneteenth is distracting from getting it passed ⬇️
Last year's George Floyd #JusticeInPolicing Act included #MVPHarris' Justice for Lynching Victims Act (JFVLA), but it was taken out in this session. The JFLVA is still in the Republicans JUSTICE Act. The House has 2 bills & the Senate has 1 that are still in committees.
In the House, the Emmett Till and Will Brown Justice for Victims of Lynching Act of 2021 is identical to the Senate bill introduced by then Sen #KamalaHarris & co-sponsored by Sen Booker that passed unanimously in the Sen 2X; but it has much fewer co-sponsors than the other bill.
To the "betcha Kamala Harris wouldn't March at a BLM rally" people who responded to her appearance at DC Pride...per usual you are loud and wrong. She ALREADY DID. What else y'all wanna be fake mad about? #MVPHarris
To the "betcha Kamala won't keep the same energy for Juneteenth" folks in response to her appearance at DC Pride- per usual y'all loud & wrong. She introduced a bill to make Juneteenth a national holiday & appeared at a rally. What else yall wanna be fake mad about? #MVPHarris
To the "why won't she speak out about the lynching bill" folks in response to her at DC Pride- per usual y'all loud & wrong. She successfully got it passed after 200 prior failed attempts in the Senate b4 Rand Paul blocked it. What else yall wanna be fake mad about? #MVPHarris
Chile now folks are saying VP of the UNITED STATES Kamala Harris is supposed to solve the COVID-19 crisis in a whole ass nother sovereign country? Let's speak truth: MVP isn't getting attacked because she isn't Indian/Asian enough...she's getting attacked cuz she's too Black.
The common theme in these #MVPHarris hit pieces against isn't just anti-Blackness & racial gatekeeping, it's people making arbitrary measures of how much/ what VP should SAY with no regard for what is being done. We gotta get away from the tweet or it didn't happen culture.
Let me show you how they blatantly LIE on MVP. The article paints VP as only commenting on India as an afterthought at random events not about India. Yet here VP is at an event specifically about US->India relief efforts also speaking about her personal connection.
Yall I am LIVID! I took my car to @CarMax & they pulled a bait & switch reducing the online offer by 3100! When I said NO the rep told me she ALREADY SIGNED OVER MY TITLE! Now how the hell do you sign my title b4 I AGREE to an offer & get a check? That is beyond unscrupulous!
.@carmax Drastically reducing the offer was annoying but I have other options incl. keeping my paid off car. But to sign over my title without my consent is outrageous! Now I have to wait for another title to be ordered because I for damn sure ain't accepting their rip off offer.
I should've just used the Far superior online sales option my husband used that didn't bait & switch. Apparently @carmax thinks I have a crack habit I need to support by selling my car for crackhead prices. I can assure them I do not! I'll keep y'all posted but I am PISSED!
