Guys, given the imminent release of #JohnWick3 and #AlwaysBeMyMaybe, I want to talk about working with Keanu Reeves on set. Don’t worry, this is a feel-good story about an awesome dude.
The legend is true. Keanu is a class act on set, someone that deeply cares about the crew and his fellow actors
A prime example: After shooting Keanu’s coverage on a scene, they’d turn the cameras around to shoot the other actor in the scene. At that point Keanu doesn’t have to stick around — he can go hang out in his trailer, relax, let the actor shoot their part with the stand in
But instead of leaving, Keanu would stay and play the whole scene through. Take after take — even if he wasn’t on camera.
And when he was off camera, Keanu would still give 100% to his performance. That way the actor that’s on camera can play off of him, which helps them give 100% to their performance.
Keanu absolutely doesn’t have to do this. The dude’s doing it because he cares.
And when he wasn’t in a scene, Keanu would hang out by video village, talk to people, enjoy each others’ company. Enjoy the fun and camaraderie of making a movie. That was so amazing to watch.
So what I’ve observed is that Keanu deeply cares about the production and the people working on it. And sometimes, that’s hard to do — hours are long and brutal. It’s easy to get irritable, and that tone can trickle down and can ruin everyone’s day.
When it comes to how you’d want an actor to be, Keanu Reeves is the gold standard. Above and beyond. If you ever get the opportunity to work with him, take it in a heartbeat
