Based on research - belonging, perspective, acceptance, hope, and humor are the keys to #resiliency according to @RHanleyDafoe So relevant for Wellness@Work and what @ottawahealth can promote in the community Image
That is - find our family, keep in mind what is important, shift from asking "why" to "what can we do", enter situations hope-filled, laugh.
Tactics: keep stress at optimal level (motivated not fatigued, requires time to recover with micro-breaks after times of pressure); know your values - they can be triggers; build mindfulness (pay attention on purpose - gratitude, question inner dialogue).

Find your "lighthouse" - what can guide you, help you know you are on the right track? @RHanleyDafoe
"Instead of curling up with Netflix and carbs, work at building community out in the open." @RHanleyDafoe

Final words: "Know you are valuable, your self-care matters" Thank you @RHanleyDafoe

Today we are reporting 698 new COVID-19 cases in our community, a number higher than we have ever had before. Still, I know our community will persevere. (1/8)
We will get to a point one day when COVID-19 will be treated similarly to other respiratory illnesses, but right now we need to focus on slowing further transmission.
As we go into the holidays, I'd like to thank all of you for your efforts. (2/8)
Our healthcare workers, volunteers, pharmacies, hospitals, community health centres, family physicians, City partners and the Ottawa Public Health team have made it possible to go from providing 5,000 to 20,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses/day to residents in two weeks. (3/8)

Please, #StayHome

The COVID situation in Ottawa is concerning and we need further restrictions to bend the curve. Younger people are being hospitalized in Ontario. ICU admissions are increasing. Cases are too high in our city.

And, variants of concern are here to stay. (1/5)
We are not dealing with the same virus that we started out with a year ago. The risk of ICU admission is 2 times higher and the risk of death is 1.5 times higher for the B.1.1.7 variant (UK).

The virus has changed, and so must our behaviours. (2/5)
Our health care system is under pressure and we do not have an infinite number of health care workers.

Vaccines are here, but we need more time and more supply for the vaccines to have a real impact. We need to stay strong for a little bit longer. (3/5)

Ottawans, we moved into the Red zone as COVID-19 levels were rising 2 wks ago + the curve has only worsened. 2 weekends ago we had lovely weather + a lot of socializing. I am seeing many people test positive after being in groups at restaurants, with transmission even outdoors.
COVID-19 is spreading too fast in Ottawa to enable health services to function well, + too many older adults are still vulnerable to hospitalization + death. With Variants of Concern driving rapid spread, we must continue vaccinating older adults + people at highest risk.
But vaccination will not turn this curve. We have added testing capacity, are making space in hospitals with canceled procedures, and it won't be enough if exponential growth continues. There isn't enough vaccine to protect everyone from this resurgence. We have to #StayHome

Why was COVID19 testing capacity limited early on? Not only did machines need to be purchased, processes validated, supply chains were strained – nasal pharyngeal swabs, pipette tips, wipes. Even now, reagents are in short supply. #EORLA keeps problem-solving.
In 2 months, #EORLA completed as many virology tests as normally completed in 2 years. Continuously increasing the number of tests has required totally new processes, work flows and ongoing adjustments. The virology team has grown from 6 people to 29. @CHEO @OttawaHospital
Every single COVID19 testing kit is put together by a small #EORLA team in one windowless room. 100,000 (!!) as of June 11, with Lynda supported by Erin overseeing the work.
