Liel Leibovitz, a senior writer for @tabletmag, recently went on the podcast of notorious antisemite and white nationalist Sebastian Gorka. This is extremely troubling, but not surprising.
Leibovitz defended Gorka's decades-long ties to the Hungarian fascist paramilitary organization Vitézi Rend, as well as the organization itself.
Meanwhile, Tablet has published various other far-right opinions, including an article expounding the antisemitic conspiracy theory "cultural Marxism" by an author linked to the Neo-Nazi publication the Republic Standard.
@mentions@tabletmag has a nasty history and present practice of publishing extremist voices with no place in our community, and no one knows exactly who pays their bills. They should not be treated as a mainstream, normal Jewish publication.
We'll refer you to the other tweets in this thread, in which we discuss Tablet writers' links to white supremacists and Neo-Nazis.
This weekend, the Trump administration abducted and disappeared Palestinian Columbia student Mahmoud Khalil for protesting the Israeli military’s genocidal assault on his people.
This attack, which most acutely targets Palestinian students and advocates for Palestinian rights, also enables Trump’s authoritarian consolidation of power against his political opponents.
It is utterly despicable that the Trump admin is carrying out this authoritarian lurch under the guise of fighting for Jewish safety.
Within our Jewish communities, we must be clear with ourselves: not only does destroying higher education & abducting students for political speech not keep Jews safe, it actively endangers us.
Laying waste to our democracy & people’s lives in the name of protecting Jews will inevitably foster resentment of us & only grow the antisemitic threats we face.
This is an all hands on deck moment.
If we do not all strongly oppose this dystopian crackdown on freedom of expression, directed by a government with many neo-Nazi ties and members, any of Trump’s political opponents could be its next victims: advocates for reproductive justice, climate action, trans rights, immigrant rights, and other progressive causes.
Today, on #YomHaShoah, we remember the six million Jews murdered by the Nazi regime during the Holocaust.
May their memories be a blessing.
May we remember that Never Again means Never Again for Anyone. 🧵
Many of us are descended from Jews who faced extermination, imprisonment, torture, and starvation at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators.
Entire families and communities wiped out in concentration camps, on death marches, in forests, and in their homes.
Our history grounds us in the need to fight antisemitism & all forms of bigotry.
It compels us to say Never Again.
We remember all six million Jews — and we remember millions of Roma, Sinti, queer, trans, and disabled people, political dissidents, and more murdered by Nazis.
BREAKING: 75 American Jews & allies were just arrested shutting down a Los Angeles freeway to demand a ceasefire, and an end to U.S. funding of war crimes against the people of Gaza.
Millions face death by bomb, bullet, starvation & disease in Gaza. No more business as usual.
Jewish tradition teaches that all human beings are created B'tzelem Elohim, in the image of G-d. For us, starvation & slaughter in Gaza violates our deepest beliefs.
Our politicians MUST call for a ceasefire, freedom for all captives, and a political solution to end bloodshed.
Millions of lives hang in the balance. Those who've survived American bombs dropped by Israeli planes are now fighting desperately to survive starvation, flood, and disease.
Every day that passes without a ceasefire condemns hundreds, likely thousands, of Gazans to death.
