Good Morning from the Banking and Insurance committee where they are discussing insulin affordability and access in Kentucky. People in the crowd are wearing Kentucky #insulin4all shirts.
567,000 adults in Kentucky have diabetes. 108,000 have diabetes but don’t know.
Here’s a breakdown of those numbers
1 in 4 diabetics use less than the prescribed amount of insulin due to the high cost
This is Angela Summers a type 2 diabetic. She says when she moved back to Kentucky the cost of her insulin went from $35 a month to over $400 a month. This caused her to ration her insulin for years which gave her neuropathy.
Angela Lautner a type 1 diabetic testifies in front of the committee. She is holding 2 vials of insulin she purchased in Canada for $22 those same vials would have been over $300 in Kentucky.
