Mayor of Lancaster says an @LASDHQ #deputy was shot by a #SNIPER.

The rookie deputy was walking in the sheriff’s station parking lot when he was shot by someone in a nearby mental health facility. That building overlooks the sheriff’s station parking lot bit.ly/31XPpdw

The suspect is reportedly somewhere inside the mental health facility.

The LA County Sheriff’s deputy is in the hospital, but is expected to recover. His bullet proof vest reportedly deflected the bullet. I’m told he is a young, rookie deputy.

A @LASDHQ Captain tells us the injured deputy is just 21-years-old. He is a patrol trainee who has been with the department for a year. He is in good spirits, and is going to be OK.

#UPDATE: The apartment complex is back open. The @LASDHQ says one person is in custody — but only because they didn’t cooperate with evacuation orders.

It’s not clear if the shooter is in custody tonight. But the search at the apartment complex is over...

#UPDATE: Pellet gun was seized... still no suspect in custody. This, after an all out manhunt last night in search of a person who shot a deputy.

LASD Deputy Angel Reinosa, 21, had two holes in his shirt the day he was "shot by a sniper." Today, investigators saw no visible injuries on his shoulder. Then, he told them he cut the holes in his shirt with a knife, there were no shots ever fired, and it was all a lie. @ABC7
