The same way you don’t stress when you write a simple tweet like the one you sent me. In other words, when you’re not thinking of it as “Writing” (capital W) it’s easier to convey what you’re thinking.
Here’s a tip: text your thoughts/ideas to yourself. In a few - or many - texts. No stress. Just as if it’s casual notes you don’t wanna forget. Next: do it as an email. A little longer. But with the same notion: super casual; just recording some brain droppings. Nothing big.
You can even do it as a letter to yourself. Then expand on that further. Write out a document - on Pages or on Word or anything. On a yellow pad. But always the same directive to yourself: Just jotting down thoughts as they happen for possible reference later.
Then put it aside. Then start to wonder to yourself: what is starting to form? And start musing on that. And jot some of those thoughts down. A possible outline? Whatever. Just thoughts. Nothing big. Put em ALL down, “good” and “bad.”
Then go look at some of those original pages and jot some thoughts about what would happen if you flesh it out? Cut some stuff? What’d be cool to add here? Subtract? And try some of it. As an experiment. Just thoughts. Possibly this way.. possibly that way. No judgment.
And then, at one point, make the decision to look critically at whatever you’ve assembled. And for a moment (or however long it takes) scrutinize what you’ve done. Ask questions. What is it telling you? What does it need more of? Less of? NOW is the time for judgement.
Then wait a moment or two - or a day or two - or more.. and just see what comes up. Just mull. No judgment again. Just mulling. And then... resume the process. Jotting down your thoughts. Fleshing it out. More experimenting. More questions. More curiosity. Always curiosity.
And keep going this way. Never putting weight on it that it can’t sustain. Just makin’ stuff up & jotting it down. Asking questions - & answering them. Scrutinizing. Then playing again. Always separate. Mostly playing. But when you’re scrutinizing, be honest about what you see.
It’s never heavier than that. You can always go back & rewrite. You can always make it better. Later. It’s a delicate thing, an idea, a story, a novel, a script. It lives & breathes in a weightless world. You have to let yourself float along w it. Much easier to capture that way
Oh - one other thing. If the stage of putting it into a “document” feels too hard? Just do it all as an email to yourself. Or a hand written letter. Form is irrelevant. I have outlined entire movies in the form of an email to myself. Takes the onus off everything.

For those saying writers (most of whom hold 2nd jobs, btw) are "rich," let me put it in a way that may make more sense to you: 1 script made into a film creates btwn 200 & 1000+ jobs. A successful film brings in 100s of millions+ in revenue, $0 of which is shared with the writer.
In my case, films I wrote have generated over $2billion. Studio accounting has us believe NOT ONE is in profit even though they've spawned multiple sequels. Thus I've gotten exactly $0 of my 5% of net points. The residuals I get are only cuz 50 yrs ago writers went on strike.
(Btw, the writers who struck back then for residuals *I* get now did so knowing *they'd* receive *none* of it. Part of their agreement was that what they were striking for would be for those coming *after* them, not them. We really strike not for us, but for the next generation.)

If you don’t vaccinate, you are an incubator for the variants
PS: this was told to me by an epidemiologist who’s been studying this. And who, by the way, does not “profit” from people having Covid. In fact, many of her closest friends have died on the front lines. No (sorry, small but vocal minority), I am not a “shill for Big Pharma.”
PPS: I’m not upset with people who can’t do it for medical reasons, or who (sadly) can’t because it’s unavailable to them. I listen to people who study this & have nothing at stake other than their desire/ability to save lives. No I’m not personally an expert & don’t claim to be.

Garry Shandling died 5 years ago today. In thinking about him this morning, I realized the very first - and last - time I saw him involved the same kind of restaurant and the same exact joke. "The Cow Joke." Which became a 35 year running mock "argument" for us (well, for him).
We met 41 yrs ago this week. March 20, 1980. I was a student stand-up in The UCLA Comedy Club. We'd each do a short set, then a professional headliner (we paid $50) would close. Garry was the headliner. He saw my set and asked if I wanted to try writing with him.
We went to The Good Earth in Westwood, where I pitched: "Why is it whenever people pass a cow on the side of the road they stick their head out the window and say 'moo?' Are they expecting the cow to be thinking: 'Hey, there's a cow driving that car?'"

In August 1985 I was awakened by a call saying "Are you the Night Stalker?" I hung up, thinking it was a weird prank. But it kept happening. That's when I learned - from a reporter on the other end - that I was a prime suspect in that grisly RIchard Ramirez murder spree.
The reporter explained that my car was found at the crime scene, which made no sense because I looked out my window & saw it was still in the parking space of my Westwood apartment. I had to hang up because the police were walking up my driveway - but weirdly slowly.
They had an odd attitude when they arrived, saying something about needing to just "check it out" because it was already not seeming likely that I was "the one." (Also: I had obviously just woken up and was - I suddenly realized - wearing only my tighty whiteys).

Let's be clear: Biden was WAY up in the polls. Trump TOLD his supporters NOT to vote by mail (even though he did). And even if he hadn't, more D's believe in science than R's do, so even if Dems didn't traditionally vote more by mail (hence Trump trying to dismantle the USPS)..
..there were going to be more D mail-in votes this year. There was always talk of a "Red Mirage" (with R's going early and in person) and then a "Blue Shift" (as all the ballots were counted. This is not a surprise. I'm sure the shock of many on the right comes more from..
..their believe that because they'd disenfranchised so many, injured the USPS's ability to deliver, & made it so difficult to vote in certain urban areas, etc, they had it in the bag. More people voted - which is a great thing - than ever before. People were energized. BUT..

BISHOP MARIANN BUDDE: "The President just used a Bible - the most sacred text of the JudeoChristian tradition, and one of the churches of my diocese - without permission - as a backdrop for a message antithetical to the teachings of Jesus & everything that our churches stand for.
"And to do so... he sanctioned the use of tear gas by police officers in riot gear to clear the church yard. I am outraged. The president did not pray when he came to St Johns, nor... did he acknowledge the agony of our country right now, and in particular that of the people..
"..of color in our nation who wonder if anyone in public power will acknowledge their scared worth, and who are rightfully demanding an end to systemic racism and white supremacy in our country. And I just want the world to know that we in the diocese of Washington, following..
