Our solution to multisig is a decentralized, open source app called SigStash, it allows you to entrust multisig keys to friends or professionals in a DID powered network. Initial implementation, TradeLayer treasury has a back-up cold key for our investors as they take delivery.
We're not getting into the business of co-signing any trade from anyone with no KYC. However a million small businesses could spring up and provide these services in many countries. A hundred million friends and family can help make none of their kin suffers key loss or theft.

The story of TradeLayer is so long we can break it into into 11 discrete periods of ~8-10 months:
Mastercoin Golden Age
Mastercoin Interregnum
New Guard/Rebrand
Refragmentation
Sabbatical
The Mighty Ducks
The Seed Round
Layoff Steepes
1 Dev
Re-seed
Dugan Admin
Rao Admin
The golden age was the ICO through the resignation of Ron Gross, the Interregnum was David J. and the volunteer-only team, new guard was TradeLayer founder Patrick Dugan getting the foundation refunded and administering it.

Friday status of the 5 initiatives:
1) Compliance, rescheduled a call for Wednesday, going to iterate on policy drafts, then can proceed to host collateral with Copper for Liquidity Club.
2) Explorer, front-end redesign is being implemented and will be ready early May.
3) Wallet is having a server-based architecture built to manage trade channels and counter-parties, and act as a watchtower for layer 2. Once we get the basic sorting up we can properly go live on testnet. LTC and token to token instant trading is all working atomically.

3 Key updates about the project:
1) Hiring new C++ dev, our 2nd C++ dev is working on RPCs now
2) Settlement code is being finished to get what we want on testnet. Too soon to estimate, will update as we get tests to pass.
3) Wallet almost ready to start trading spot on tnet
Once we have spot trading on testnet in the wallet for closed beta invitees, we'll move towards polishing it up, then open beta, then penetration testing, fixing any bugs encountered.
We want to get to 1 or 10M trades on testnet to activate on Mainnet.

A very personal note:
14 months ago the founder's mother-in-law sold a house and repaid a home improvement loan, this paid for Nov./Dec. costs. The project didn't clinch though. In Jan./Feb. the founder laid in his last spare $1000 for part-time work on the last dev.
This project, even after 2 years, was still mired in a large amount of technical debt, how much? It was difficult to determine. Now having paid down much of it, the size of it was clearly at least 35k USD worth of tech debt at our cost rate or >200k at a Bay Area rate.
