The reason the 1619 Project has republicans so mad is that they operate under the notion that history is written by the winners, therefore all the evil they are doing right now will be ok if they just keep on "winning." And winning is an amorphous concept for them.
What they fail to realize is that history may be, in the short term, written by the winners, history is interpreted by the LIVING. And no matter how you write history the history of this country, the living are allowed to look at it and say "WOW WE DID SOME RACIST EVIL SHIT."
And the living are also allowed to look at that, and say tothemselves "Hey-maybe just maybe, the racist birth of our nation led to some repercussions throughout our nation's entire existence and may still be impacting who and what we are today?"
and from there its a short logical and empirical stroll to get to things like institutional racism, and before you know it, people are looking at the wealth gap and white flight and urban renewal and banking disparities and the criminal justice system and oh shit we got a mess
The problem with people knowing something is that it leads to people knowing more things and before you know it people are informed. So that is why they want to kill the 1619 project dead and taint it so they never have to talk about it.
It's their playbook for everything- climate change is a hoax and only freaks and treehuggers care about it, suppress research into it and attack people who study it etc.
it's why in our lifetimes a bunch of tobacco ceo's went before congress and told the world that tobacco was not dangerous but not addictive
Just suppress the evidence and pretending it doesn't exist is easier than an honest accounting. And since it always boils down to money, easier means, of course, cheaper
I mean, look at the freakout at Ta Naheesi Coates eminently reasonable analyses a few years ago. The freakout from the charlatan right wing "intellectuals" was hysterical.
It's why the Kochs and other shitbird billionaires pour money into academic departments everywhere to create bullshit research.

I don't need to continue on, because you all are smart. You get the point.
An additional reason, though, is the right wing inability to deal with complexity. Decades of training has turned everything into a binary construct for them. Republicans good, Democrats bad. Israel good, Palestinians bad. Business good, regulations bad.
It's why they think pointing out anything bad the US is doing means you hate America.
So they are also constitutionally incapable, at this point, to look at the 1619 project and see that while horrible things were done in the formation of this nation, and that this nation has continued to do horrible things to minorities throughout her existence
even with her flaws, it is still an overall decent experiment.

For the right, both things can not exist.
fyi, re: knowing things and complexity, if you want to see what it looks like when someone KNOWS something about a topic talks about it, read this by @CherylRofer

@CherylRofer people who KNOW things about complicated issues don't make black and white definitive statements. It's why your doctor doesn't tell you "OH YEAH SURE YOUR DAD IS GOING TO COME OUT OF THIS SURGERY JUST FINE"

RE: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis writing a letter for Danny Masterson

Many, many years ago I interned in a probation office in Morgantown, WV. It was supposed to be just a summer thing, but I enjoyed the work so much I was there for a year and a half.
One of the things that we had to do was Pre Sentence Investigations. These were for the judge to read before sentencing (after conviction), so they could get a picture of the individual. At the time I was there, there were a number of sexual predators in the county jail
and none of the female interns wanted to have anything to do with them, so I volunteered to do a ton of them over the time I was there. I got kind of good at it, too.

Equally flummoxing is the Republicans opposing the meager aid we are profviding Ukraine.

We spent 290 million every day in Afghanistan for 20 years.

105 billion a year
We are getting so much more for our money by orders of magnitude. And the money we are spending isn't really all going to Ukraine.

The ammo and weapons we are sending are not cash. They are depreciated assets that we will replace with newer ammo and weapons.
It's like giving your five year old car to your sixteen year old kid and buying the new car you planned to anyway.

It's anecdotal and this is not one of the worst I have seen, but one of the thing that stands out to me in every video of abandoned Russian positions is that the soldiers were living in complete filth.
There is just trash everywhere, no policing of debris, etc. Yes, war is hell and all that, but if you are in a set position for a while you maintain your AO for a variety of reasons, including just maintaining basic discipline.
This means command has completely broken down at even the most basic levels, there is no resupply to remove trash, morale is low, they are in unhygienic squalor, they are untrained, and undisciplined.

Look- you're just not going to understand the mindset of sociopaths like Greitens, Mastriano, Mike Flynn, and a lot of the scumbags coming out of the operator class in the US Military until you understand the School of Americas and all the right wing death squads they trained.
It moved from Panama to Benning after being expelled, and while we're still training latin american fanatics, we're also training our own.
Mastriano and all these guys spent their whole lives teaching people how to run and operate insurgencies. Now they are turniung their fire inwards. And they aren't afraid to... break a few eggs, if you will.

They're fascists. They are the American equivalent of a junta.

Increasing the amount of white babies and delaying the loss of the white majority. They use jails to lock up black men now that lynching is unacceptable and remove their franchise for felonies and while they are in. This combo increases white % of vote.
Others in the coalition are straight up christofascists who have bought into the narrative shift about abortion since the Reagan conservatives used the biblethumpers to maintain partisan rule
And then the money guys in the party just like the issue because it keeps the other parts of the rightwing coalition motivated and voting Republican, and they can maintain power and keep looting.

My general opinion is that protesting outside Kavanaugh's house and shit is that it is ineffective because it lets him be the favorite thing these whiny twats like to be, which is a victim.
But am I going to say a thing about it? No. Because people are living under minority rule for a while now and now have an opus dei commission navigating their private parts, so fuck them.
They're fed up and quite simply I am surprised the majority hasn't rioted. Teabaggers LOST THEIR EVERLOVING SHIT simply because a black dude was elected fairly.
