Just remembered a touching story I want to share from work last week. We had a huge convention in town, I helped out one of our restaurants during the day & ran events at night. We had all hands on deck. Tons of staff & it still didn’t seem like quite enough. 1/
One of our young bussers is here from Honduras on a work visa sponsored by my boss so she can help with care of her elderly grandmother. Two family members are citizens and have worked with us before. They were great so boss thought he could take the chance & help. 2/
She struggles with the language some, but can get by easily for what her job requires & is especially polite. Hard worker, great attitude, very cute girl. Before long she had a boyfriend. He’s a douche, but she’s young so you know how that goes. 3/
She ends up pregnant and he bails. Of course. So now she’s 6 months pregnant and working as much as she can to save money. She busted her butt last week in all the chaos. And I mean CHAOS of a jam packed restaurant that seats roughly 500 when all areas are open. 4/
Anyway, she finished bussing one table and went to take the paid check to the waiter. He opened it and found his tip and then another piece of paper folded over. It said “For a beautiful mother to be and her baby...” 5/
On the inside was the sweetest note about how the writer was a young, single mother once & though it was tough, she got through it & it was the most rewarding experience of her life. She knew that after seeing how hard she worked, she knew that she (busser) would be okay, too. 6/
She hoped this little token would help and encourage her on her journey. That “little token” was a $100 bill. The waiter found her & showed her excitedly. She didn’t quite understand until he explained & translated. Then she burst into tears. 7/
She couldn’t believe a stranger would do that. She absolutely beamed the rest of the week. It made such a difference to her, financially & emotionally. There is still kindness in this world. There is still gratitude. Try not to forget that amidst all the ugliness. /end

Let’s just compile some of the ugly & nonsense in a thread, shall we?

All of my best friends from college are hanging out in Nashville with my bro and I’m jealous af, but damn I love those boys!
We’ve been through almost 2 decades of heartbreak, loss, weddings, babies, and so much more together. Couldn’t be happier that after all this time we’re still friends and they love my siblings like their own. Special group of people.
Facetimed with them just now and they recounted all their shenanigans and had me laughing out loud. It made my day. My people. 🧡

The first copies of the Declaration of Independence were printed on the evening of July 4th, 1776 in Philadelphia by a young immigrant, John Dunlap. ~200 Dunlap broadsides were distributed throughout the colonies, including one to General Washington & one to England. #July4th
Though several copies made their way to England, the Continental Congress did not send an official copy directly to King George. A 26th copy of the Dunlap Broadside was found as recently as 2009 in The National Archives in England. #July4th
Dunlap did more during the Revolutionary War than just secure one of the most historic printing contracts in American history, he was also a patriot who fought under Washington, including in a few key battles (that boosted the Continental Army) at Trenton & Princeton. #July4th

There are some people you could take this up with. Mainly the Democrats that now control most of the federal government so I have a sneaking suspicion you won’t.
Also, why has the officer who shot someone that day not had their name released? I am not weird about this, people trespassed & were threatening, many were not in the right, but what gives? A person was shot by a federal officer. Where is the transparency?
Officer involved shootings from local to state to national level that make news usually see the LEO names released long before all the facts are in. Definitely within a few weeks. Certainly by month’s end. But no dice here.

Within mere hours the mom was in the media spotlight. She nor many giving her media coverage mentioned Ma’Khia was in foster care. Of course that doesn’t take away from loving or memorializing her daughter. It does warrant some uncomfortable questions. washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/04…
“Her daughter didn’t come home tonight because of that murderer.”

She wouldn’t have been going to her mom’s home. That saddens me even more. She was left to the system and her mom took center stage upon her daughter’s death.
My god this is just a shitty fucking situation with the worst possible outcome.
